Refering to Banshees
It is a well known fact that banshees are the most hated vehicle in Halo Demo/Trial. Is there any way they could be saved?
Like you need to snipe a goat at point-blank range. -moment in KOTOR II

yeah, but until you do it, the pilot would kill 23 players.Moxus wrote:Frankly, it's easy to take out an inexperienced Banshee pilot. If you don't want Banshees, just shoot them down.

Calling it cheating is stupid as calling hosting cheating.POG_root wrote:if people call that cheating or unfair then they cannot play. seriously it is there for a reason, balance. without it the map is unbalanced, and thus making the gameplay unfair.
Calling it unfair is right.
you want to tell me that a spawn-killing banshee pilot is fair in a F4A game with custom starting weapons? oh cmon.
...and without it the map is perfectly balanced.
I never heard noone complain about unfairness in my banshee-less servers.
Adding they to a game means making the game boring because of noob pilots.
Now Moxus will say something like "but there are good pilots!"...
...that is even worse! jesus christ!
Even if i get that damn 1 on 47000 chance to meet a pro pilot, it will be the unfairfest.
So, Alex, i would make banshees destroyable and without weapons. That's my opinion.

Taxi,
I do agree with you when you say it is unfair that they kill-as-you-spawn. However, driving vehicles, and the banshee are the fun parts of the game. Also, in most mods that dont have the banshee, they usually have something else fun that is better: tanks, that shooter thing
, and lots of others fun platforms or something else.

I'm not saying that they are not fun. I am saying that they are not fair! (in default Slayer or CTF.)
Look at quarantine; i think i did a fun mod to banshees there. (They are still unfair against someone by feet, but is nicer because they're faster, in major number and with an air-to-air weapon. So 6 player can do an air fight or something like that... (if lag wouldnt kill they first XP))
uhm... yeah.... <_< ciao!

No need, Moxus. I can do it
If the pilot is moving backwards to have a steady aim...
Get two or three people against the shee. Fire at the bump on the front (that white spot is especially weak) or DIRECTLY into the back where you see the feet of the pilot. Assault rifles and charged plasma pistol bolts are the most effective weapons a cyborg can carry, so get those and maybe plasma grenades.
If the pilot is being a noob and running people over...
...and if you're the host...
Start a new game with a map that has only one change from the previoius; Banshees have no collision to cyborgs, they fly right through.
...and if you're not the host...
Heavy weapons, well-placed grenades, and again, assault rifles, are all good for taking out low-flying pilots (noobs and otherwise)
If the pilot has decent aim, avoids running over, but doesn't target the most dangerous enemies...
Take a LAAG and start firing. LAAG is an acronym for Light Anti-Air Gun. IT'S CALLED ANTI-AIR FOR A REASON. It is THE most effective weapon against a Banshee in any scenario as it deals great damage and is either mobile (for evasion) or immobile (to prevent flipping from a fuel rod).
Any scenario with an enemy Banshee can be helped by a LAAG operator. Or, if you have a tank instead, get someone who's a good shot and kill it that way.
–I have successfully killed both noobs and experienced pilots with the given methods in the given scenarios. All it takes is aim, distractions for your target, and a little patience.
– There have been times when I got over 20 kills because the idiots wouldn't shoot at me from more than one place, but there have also been times when I couldn't fly a Banshee without getting shot at.
– Figure it out. Banshees are not unfair, they are merely a challenge.
– Removing the weapons or making the weapons hurt the pilot or making the weapons weak or useless is as nooby as complaining when you won't do anything to take down the pilot.
– Destructible Banshees? If you can make them respawn in perfect condition, I say go for it! But don't make their health any less than twice that of the default for cyborgs. They're vehicles. They have armor. Be reasonable >.>

In WMV2, mt shee's had no collision, the bolts got less than an inch, and the secondary shoots ghosts
I might even make a mod for shee noobs
(shees have some ultra power weapon, but everything else is a LAAG turret/shoots LAAG projectiles +some other stuff)
I might even make a mod for shee noobs

As I surreptitiously put my tallywhacker into the jet
I only have two things to add to this guide. The first is that I've found the best weapon pair for taking down Banshees to be the Pistol and the Shotgun. The second (a seemingly common misconception) is that Sniper Rifles DO NOT work well on Banshees. It takes several Sniper Rifles in combined fire to take down a Banshee (Unless you fire at the feet).neko-chan wrote:No need, Moxus. I can do it

Other then that, I think this guide is a good one.

Very far: Sniper Rifle for appetizers..
Coming nearer: Pistol for some flavor
Even nearer: Lovely, dangerous sweet spray of AR bullets..
Ramming you down like an idiot: Kill him with a shotgun, taunting everytime you dodge his futile ramming.
