The line "0x881fd0" does not have the bytes "27 71 43 42 BD 83 B5 C2 0E 6C A2 41 CE 28 59 BF", but instead "2a 00 2b 00 2b 00 2c 00 2d 00 2e 00 2e 00 2f 00". I copied and pasted the exact number you gave (0x881fd0) so there would be no chance of mistake, but I came up with the wrong thing.

I'm guessing this tutorial is for unmodded maps only, which is unhelpful in every form of the word for what I'm trying to do. (Give the Energy Swords mod vehicles ><)

The fatal flaw of demo hex modding. People rely on already figured offsets to do their work which makes such changes on rebuilt maps difficult to impossible. For your particular problem, try doing a Hex search for those bytes instead of using the offset. That ought to help.
