How to Host a Dedicated Server Mac Sierra

First of all I want to thank 002 and Sparky for helping me out on this and everybody else on Mac Gaming Mods and the Discord.

1) Download the "MD Dedicated Server" app for OS X here https://macgamingmods.com/forum/viewtop ... 18567#wrap
- Extract the folder and keep it on your desktop. (Inside it should look like this)

Image

- Read the Read Me.txt.
2) Double click the "install_maps" script to link your maps folder.
3) Open the "HaloMD Server". (You'll see this)

Image
This is because you need to update the Wineskin wrapper.

4) Make sure you have X11 installed. If not go here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201341
5) To fix this error, right click "HaloMD Server" and click Show Package Contents. (It should look like this)

Image

6) Make sure you have Wineskin Winery installed. You can find it here http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-i ... =Downloads
7) Open the Wineskin in the "HaloMD Server" folder. (You will see this)

Image

8) Click Advanced and then navigate to Tools.

Image

9) Under Wrapper Tools click "Update Wrapper" twice.
-Once you updated the wrapper, look at the bottom to make sure it is at the right version.

Image
Should say Wineskin 2.6.2

- You aren't done yet! You now need to install a new Wineskin engine.
10) Open the Wineskin Winery app you installed.

Image

11) Click the + sign and choose WS8WINE1.1.10

Image

12) Click "Download and Install"
13) You may quit out of the app now and head back over to the Wineskin Wrapper.

Image

14) Click "Change Engine Used" and select WS8Wine1.1.10
15) You can now go back into the MD Server app folder and open the HaloMD Server app.

Image

Image
Now the console opens up but you get another error. This is because SAPP is trying to auto-update.

16) Click on the drive_c folder inside the HaloMD Server app.
17) Then go to the HaloMD_Server folder. (Inside will look like this)

Image

18) Go into the sapp folder and open the init.txt
19) Add this line to the bottom. auto_update 0
- You should now have

Code: Select all

no_lead 1
afk_kick 220
map_load crossing
map_load barrier
auto_update 0
20) Now run the server app again and your server should be up and running.

Common Problems

"Cannot allocate required memory. Some other application has loaded where Halo needs to be located."
- Update the Wineskin Wrapper and install WSWine1.1.10

"Sapp Unloaded"
- Make sure you added this line at the bottom of sapp's init.txt. auto_update 0

"Your CD Key is invalid"
- Make sure Sapp is loaded.

"Custom maps don't load."
- I can't really figure this one out either. Try viewtopic.php?f=40&t=18842&p=218758&hil ... pp#p218758

"My server won't show up in the HaloMD lobby."
- Direct IP into your server. Exit out and it should now be broadcasting to the lobby.

"Any other issue or concern. Please tell me in the replies and I'll try to figure it out"

Hi,
Thanks for your tutorial; absolutely priceless.
I'm trying to run a server on a Mac, and everything works up until I run the server; I can't figure out how to get the IP address of my server so that I can Direct IP connect. is there a console command I need? Or am I missing a step? As I said before, I did exactly what the tutorial told me to do, and the server is up and running; I just can't figure out the IP so that I can put it up on the main server list.

If you're trying to connect to a server on your own machine you can try using an address local to your machine like localhost or 127.0.0.1 or an address local to your router (see System Preferences -> Network). To obtain a public IP address for people outside your network, you can google your IP address, but for this to be accessible (even possibly from yourself), may involve nothing to be blocking it and possibly having to do port forwarding (google this) on your router. I don't remember what port number the dedicated server software uses by default.
I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

Go here to find you IP -> http://www.whatsmyip.org
And then direct connect to it here
Image
Then leave the game and you should see you server on the list. You can also check to see it here -> https://halomd.macgamingmods.com/lobby/

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply but after inserting my IP for direct IP, i can't seem to join my own server. It says Retrying Server for 5 times then says Unable to Join

Make sure there's a game in progress. The dedicated server does not accept players unless there is a game in progress.

Also, if you're hosting on the same machine you're intending to play on, make sure you change your client/server port in your Halo settings to something other than 2302/2303 such as 2355/2366. Use a local IP address such as 192.168.xxx.xxx or 127.0.0.1.

Hi i got the error message while trying to open the halomd server file

ERROR! cannot write to Info.plist, there are permission problems, or you are on a read-only volume.

This cannot run from within a read-only dmg file.

what does this mean? also i tried updating my wrapper and it wouldn't update. its still at 2.5.10

I got that same error too and when i try to update the wrapper i get this .. :There is an error with the installation of your Master Wrapper. Please update your Wrapper in Wineskin Winery (a manual install of a wrapper for Wineskin Winery will work too)
