You should at least check this out

Post by draconic74 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:44 pm

http://www.psychonauts.com/

Psychonauts on Mac. Although I have never played it (ok, years and years ago I played a demo on an Xbox in a store, but I don't remember anything about it) anyone I ask who knows anything about games says this is one of the best 3D action/platform games ever, and was completely underrated.

Ten bucks on Steam and the App Store, and now it's on the Mac. The requirements are a teensy bit high for a game this old, but I think any Mac running the minimum 10.6.8 should be able to run it. I'll report back later when I buy and play the game. Bit pressed for time right now... *nom nom*

Well, forgot my keys in my room. Roommate is gone, might not be back for a few hours. And it's 2:30 AM.

Used the last few % of battery to play 5 mins of the game. Awesome so far. 1% left. See you guys later.

Blargh.

It looks pretty cool to me.. Maybe I'll consider buying it later when I have a bunch of free time..
I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

Well, 3 hours into the game I can say it's probably the best 3D action-platformer I have ever played. I am so happy that I never read up on the full story or watched a Lets Play, because that would have completely ruined the story for me. Which is good, because it contains a great story so far, and by far one of the creepiest locations I have ever seen in a game.

Heres a short review:

Do you like action-platform games with puzzle elements? Yes? Stop reading this, go buy it now. NOW. That is really all there is to say.

Unless you provide a more detailed review, I answered no to all above questions, and I do not like the graphics. Therefore, will not buy.

That would be your personal preference. There was only one question. I answered yes to it. Cronos, if you are obsessed with graphics and don't like puzzle/platformers, you are simply another boring, idiotic product of the horrible influx of over-hyped high-budget first-person shooters being made. I have heard very good things about this game. Therefore, I may play it eventually.

Then go away. Also, your idea that graphics have anything to do with how the game plays sickens me. Keep in mind two things:

1) The game is 7 years old, it was released on the original Xbox.
2) Minecraft still looks worse.

And if you don't like action-platform, then that's your problem. Also, there was only one question. Learn to count.

I love action platforms, I just mainly prefer 2D ones and not too much puzzle involved. Like Maplestory or those flash games you find on the web. Hell, Mario.

And Minecraft looks fine, it was the way it was meant to be made. It is opinion.

Also, I know there was only one question, it was a bit of sarcasm-like something.

Edit: I just realized from looking at a few more things that this looks slightly like Ratchet & Clank, which I detest and is quite similar, so I have my reasons.

You obviously did not grow up in the 64-bit era. N64, original playstation... 3D platforming was the best we had. Still arguably my favorite genre.

I loved the 16 bit era, all those amazing rpgs and the like. I wish I lived in that era.

Maplestory is an 2D RPG. Mario is a straight platformer with no story or elements taken from other games. "Those Flash games" are generally 2D platformers with very few outside elements and stories as well.

Psychonauts looks how it was designed to look as well.

If you can make a claim that it is like other games which you know you don't like, then you really should have started with that argument. In a comparison to Ratchet & Clank, I would have to say that yes, in that case you may not like it. 3D Platformer with small RPG elements (weapon upgrades, skill/weapon unlocks as the story progresses, etc).

One thing I really like is the attention to detail in this game. At one point you get the power of pyrokinesis, and if you try to go around lighting people on fire they actually say relevant things back. Especially this one guy, who for the purpose of spoilers I will not name. But if you play the game, its the guy that teaches you pyrokinesis and other skills as you rank up. You will see.

PS: This was supposed to be posted 4 posts ago. Thanks MGM.

Maplestory is still a platform.

Please PM me the spoilers. I would like to hear them, it is intruiging.

If you want the spoilers, go watch a Let's Play or read the plot on Wikipedia. It's not worth just being told.
