whenever I host a multiplayer game no one can join. why is this?

A topic like this comes up once every month or so. Maybe you should check one of those.
Anyway, could be for a number of reasons. We can't help you unless you say what kind of internet connection you have, what kind of computer, etc.

the gist is that if you have a wireless router (such as an Airport base station), you need to enable Port Forwarding on the ports HD uses.
Related: Does anyone know how to do the same with a network between 2 Extreme cards? No base station. I can't seem to login to many things (Google, Yahoo, etc) from the computer that is receiving the shared internet, plus I can't even get the HD list w/o it freezing.
