Lava

According to the Halo theme, there is no sign of volcanic activity on Halo.
I was planning to add lava and some signs of volcanic activity near the blue base in Bloodgulch Extreme, however.
So the poll is.

Hmm...could be a cool project to make working lava....

The votes are in and it's saying no lava.
I welcome other ideas now.

>.< Peeps gots to not vote twice! It's a tie now. A bow tie made out of red ribbon, tied neatly above a box with a card and some snowman wrapping paper recycled from Christmas.

Well how about Lava based on Water?
(Added some feature too)

The lava would be an animated shader like water, where you see a slow lava river flowing across the map. There would be an invisible collision plane on top where if you step on it, you take damage similar to when you step into fire on the Pillar of Autumn.

Well example.
The Zanzibar in the middle of map.
Is it animated on the map or is a object animated?
So you going to remake the map with laval animated?
or put the laval (object) animated in the map?

I think it could be done either way. The appearance of the lava would be in the structure of the bsp, like the rivers are now. The damage volume would be an invisible piece of scenery with collision, like an invisible hangar wall tag, where if you walk on it, you take damage.
I think Zanzibar has a device machine tag for that large rotating object in the map, but I haven't looked into this directly. I don't know if you can have actual moving objects in the sbsp tag, or if animation is limited to shaders and bitmaps.
This reminds me of the rotating asteroids I was making for Galaxy Wars; they should be device machines rather than animated scenery, like the rotating Halo hologram is in b40 (and in Bloodgulch Extreme, where I show it).

Are you thinking stagnant lava or flowing?
unless you had a specific part of the map designed for the flowing effect, like timberland does, then it'd be difficult to get an area that shows a perfect straight flow, with no weird moving bits.

Well technically lava does have weird moving bits of rock and what-not.

Lava river, with "weird moving bits". I'd be editing the bsp to make it credible. Have you tried BGX yet?

I've never actually seen lava in real life...
But yo, are you going to be just making a very long and hurtful coll-type thing over your pretty lava? I would definitely want to try this with modding hanger walls and the fire... Sounds like something taxi would have done when just dicking around with eschaton xD.
