Galaxy Wars Development Screenshots

Post by Sparky » Sun Apr 11, 2010 3:58 pm

Hello!

Here you can observe my concept art for Galaxy Wars. Comment and we'll discuss ideas!
I made all the images that I am posting here with applications like Terragen, Bryce and 3dStudio Max, unless I mention other credit.

Planet 1
One of several full-scale planet scenery objects. Teams will have their bases on one of several planets, and there will be asteroid fields and animated whatnot between them. Attacks can be launched therefrom and firefights will be awesome within the asteroid fields. Hidden enemy AI will also be synced within the asteroid fields, as they control vehicles.

I made that with the computer program called Terragen. It's fractal-based, and er... it's my first one with that program. Like it?

by the way, here are the plots for the Galaxy Wars series. Episode 3 is related to the above screenshot...

Galaxy Wars

Episode 1: Rising Doom

After several years of tournaments in Bloodgulch, United Nations Space Command decides to take the spartan gladiator tournaments to the air, and eventually to outer space. Unbeknownst to the spartans, UNSC is using their combat training for top secret purposes... Your mission in Rising Doom is to develop your aerial combat skills as fast as possible in preparation for your future space combat missions.

Episode 2: Outpost Omega

Outpost Omega is UNSC's elite space station. It holds the main fleet of UNSC and lies about halfway between the Moon and the Earth. In the event of an alien invasion, Outpost Omega is Earth's last line of defense. After training in space combat for several months, you and your spartans were stationed at Omega when a Covenant fleet appeared from behind the Moon and struck Omega. It seems that UNSC had intel of the attack but was unable to ascertain its precise moment. Omega's fleet launched in defense and put up a good fight, but one Covenant cruiser made it through to the outpost. The cruiser deployed its infantry outside the station in an attempt to take it over, but we fought them off. Realizing that they couldn't take us in one piece, the cruiser opened fire and the outpost was annihilated.

You are the only survivor.

UNSC reports that two of our top secret X-2 heavy fighters were stolen and that a wave of intercepters is inbound to wipe out any straggling survivors. Your mission is to kill the intercepters and retrieve the stolen X-2 heavy fighters from the cruiser. Then return to Earth and help with the counterattack.

Episode 3: Counterattack

You return to Earth and are debriefed by UNSC. At long last, the bigger picture of the Covenant's war path against mankind comes into focus. Back here on Earth, UNSC agents are having trouble keeping peace among the nations, what with combat suddenly so close to home. But after a heartening speech detailing your success, alliances grow even stronger and soon you become the most renowned soldier of valor of all time!

Awed by your lack of interest in but a single moment of rest, UNSC outlines the plans for immediate counterattack:

According to our sensors in the region, the Covenant appear to be falling back to regroup in sector Delta 9-3. You orders are to immediately head for the sector... and do your thing. We suspect that they may have interceptors stationed within a nearby asteroid field, so stay sharp. After UNSC grants you authorization to use the X-2 and some engineers tell you how to engage its cloaking device, they state how critical it is to strike while the enemy is running. And they mention how much they regret that you will have to do the mission alone, due to the destruction of our armada. You politely restrain the flippant reply on your tongue and head back to the docking bay, wondering if your seat is still warm.

If the maps are actually going to be based on planet sized chunks of bsp then there's obviousley one problem- the amount of fighting. The map either needs lots of vehicles or bases closer together or ai that help protect the base/flag.
My favorite types of maps are the types where it's focused on dog fighting like in Galaxy wars. Screw fighting, it's just fun getting 12 people in a pelican and flying pretending it's real :D

Visiting this website is filled with nostalgia. Its like going to an old home.

Thank you for all the memories. Never change.

Sounds awesome! A few questions though:
 1. So AI can sync in vehicles? I thought some people said they can't.
 2. By "several full-scale planet scenery objects", does that mean the map will be the size of a solar system?
 3. If yes, does each planet have it's own gravity? (Is that even possible?)
 4. Is Episode 1 multiplayer and Episode 2 & 3 single player?

AI in vehicles do sync, because vehicle location is sent over a network.

No, no, no, no.

1. It doesn't sync, it just works better and doesn't really effect much.
2. he means like full scale maps.
3. lolno
4. facepalm.

The planet reminds me of the one in the Genesis simulation from Star Trek.

It would look better in a Star Trek than in the halo stuff you're trying here. It's like a combination of a Pyro GX and a Grumman X-29.

Niether of which appear to be a sci-fi concept dating from the 21st century at all. The pelican and the longsword have the more "human" feel I like.
