Neko will give tips on how to kill each vehicle, just so noobs who can actually make an effort will have no reason to complain. Of course, most of these require the use of heavy weapons, which are called nooby by the real noobs, so maybe this isn't a great guide for idiots.
These are from experience, so some things might not work as well in some cases. It's a little vague, but being more specific would take up too much time... Neko is tired...
Ghost :: Fuel Rod Gun. Firing quickly to spread the shots to move of the Ghost's possible escape routes and following up with a sniper rifle (or a rocket launcher if you're skilled enough) usually knocks them out, and with a well placed grenade they're more than likely to be killed.
If you're stuck with an AR or similar gun, fire that in short bursts and use whatever cover you can to avoid the plasma bolts without losing sight of the target.
Warthog :: Again, the fuel rod gun. Rockets tend to work better with direct hits since they usually kill at least one player on the vehicle if not all of them. Cliffs are good places to hide as well while you kill the gunner and/or driver.
Scorpion :: Rockets, grenades, and sniper rifles. Anything that makes a big boom or can kill in one shot is a good weapon to use. If you're trapped in the base, run out immediately after you hear the tank fire, and run back in before three seconds are up. Or, if you have eight players on your team, just have everyone charge at once from all different directions. Few tank drivers are skilled enough to hold up against attacks from all sides.
Banshee :: Directly behind with a sniper rifle or right in front with a few weapons firing all at once, or maybe a LAAG (hog) or two from whatever angle. It's not too difficult once you get used to a moving target. (Neko, for example, can take out two banshee pilots without a problem as long as her LAAG is immobile and nobody gets in the way^^)
In the StuntShees mod, try to force the pilot into a wall, the ground, or the sky box at high speed. He/she will usually be knocked out and should die from the landing impact, or at least be weakened enough to be taken down with an AR :3
A fun mod but an extremely annoying one (to the noobs, anyway. those of us who can laugh at having our asses kicked by flying things that are more annoying than the bugs their named after have a lot of fun) is the Wasp Mod. Tiny little things flying around with agility so great dogfights are virtually impossible with only two drivers. And the noise... it's terrible... like a dozen old radios tuned into nonexistant stations with the volume at max :gonk:
With the speed, ROF, and triple rocket secondary fire, the little things are a bitch to take down and damn near impossible to evade without getting in one yourself, but it's so much fun to be firing wildly and then finally manage to get an enemy out of the air.
Download from here, btw. It's in the "Favorite_Blood_Gulch_Mods" subdirectory, creatively named "Wasp_Mod.zip"
Any other vehicles you're having trouble taking down? Just ask Neko ^.^
( more detail = better for tactics requests )
**okay, so this isn't the best place to put it, but neko actually started making this miniguide a few posts from the end of the discussion about how difficult banshees are to kill if the one attempting to kill the pilot doesn't know how**

You do realize that some of the best Halo demo players call Rods nooby and trust me they are not noobs (he raped me with a ar from like 100 feet away O.O).neko-chan wrote:Neko will give tips on how to kill each vehicle, just so noobs who can actually make an effort will have no reason to complain. A good vehicle guide: get good with the sniper rifle you pwn can anything.
OMFG THE INTERNET IS SO SRS.
What I find is the easiest way to take down a Banshee without any heavy weapons is the following (This works best in CTF or any game with Banshees and starting weapons as an AR and a pistol). The first deals with a single Banshee, and the setting is away from bases. It will be unlikely that you would survive long enough with two Banshees in this position with anything shot of a Rocket Launcher or a Fuel Rod gun (which have been stated to be "noobish" and are not the subject here). The second, at a base, can work for either having one or multiple Banshees.
If a Banshee is heading for your base/you or you just want to take it down:

If a Banshee is heading for your base/you or you just want to take it down:
- 1. Use your pistol to do damage to the shields of the Banshee and to get the Banshee's attention (If you don't have it already).
2. This step splits into two depending on scenario.
A ) If the Banshee turns to confront you, keep firing your pistol until they are close. When they are close enough (this is mostly a matter of practice in judgment and experience), quickly switch to a fully loaded AR and start unloading. I find this combination fairly effective.
B ) If the Banshee does not turn to confront you and keeps flying, continue unloading your pistol until the pilot either dies, moves out of range, or moves out of sight and/or you run out of ammo.
Note: If during step 2. A ) the Banshee reaches the ground or gets stuck near/on the ground, use this oppurtunity to place a grenade near the Banshee, but not so close as that it is under it, unless it's really stuck (again, distance is a matter of experience). A Plasma grenade, in the odd occasion that you have one, can be used to be stuck onto the Banshee. If the Banshee is stuck for any amount of time, or you're talented with sticking Plasma grenades, this would be the preferred option from my point of view.
- (Use this procedure on one Banshee at a time)
1. Get inside your base. This will shield you from most weapons fire and certainly from physical attack. If there is anyone from the opposing team inside your base, kill them, as you most likely would anyways.
2. Go near one of the entrances of your base. Generally the rear exit is the best (The one farthest from the teleporter). If the Radar is enabled, watch the Banshee(s) fly over your base. When one comes, prepare to go outside.
3. Again, this splits into two categories, not because of scenario, but because of skill.
A ) Stay near the entrance, but far enough out that you can get at least a 140° view. If the Banshee is close enough, use an AR. If it is farther away or if you prefer, use a pistol. Pretty much anything can work in this situation, but I am basing this on a no-weapon-other-than-spawn approach.
B ) (For the more skilled) Plunge right outside. This works best if there is a distraction, such as at Red Base, a teammate running for the Rocket Warthog. Attempt to get the Banshee to circle around you on the ground. JUMPING IS GREATLY ENCOURAGED. Counter the Banshee's turns, especially if it's wing or fuselage are on the ground, by jumping in the opposite direction of the turn, or in any evasive fashion that you fancy. Fire constantly, using either AR or Pistol (I recommend AR, as the Banshee is most likely close enough). If it goes nose first on the ground in a failed attempt to turn, use this chance to launch a grenade. I have noticed that inexperienced or tasked pilots will worm around on the ground in a failed squashing attempt. This is the golden opportunity. As it is uncommon to have Plasma grenades either at base or that you have spawned with them, do not try to place the grenade too close or bounce it off. If the Banshee flies away or you become injured, retreat back into the base and wait for the next opportunity and/or for your shields to regenerate. You can also go to the other entrance and surprise it.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Never rely on grenades in any situation unless the Banshee is practically immobile, or you have a Plasma grenade. Even in those situations, do not rely on them. This is due to the ability of the Banshee (although unlikely) to move out of the grenade's range suddenly (when on the grenade is on the ground), and also because they are not land based, and therefore not as vulnerable to on-land explosives. UNLESS you are very talented with Plasma grenades DO NOT attempt to hit the Banshee with a grenade in the sky. Fragmentation grenades are completely useless in this, as they do not stick.
Where this is centered around a CTF based game, if the opposing team attempts to get the flag, DESPITE your feelings over Banshees, the objective of the game should come first. Break off attack and kill the flag bearer.
Repeat this procedure if you choose for multiple Banshees
--Moxus--
Best weapons against banshees? Assault Rifle and Pistol. Best. Combo. Ever. And, you also need to be able to dodge incoming banshees as well as I do. Unless it's main body is 2 meters from me, I can dodge it. Here's one hint: If a banshee is coming at you and you can't jump out of the way, then simply duck. 3/4 of the time, the driver will be smart enough to pull up and not get momentarily stuck on the ground - all the time one would need to throw a nade at the banshee. Usually if you duck, the banshee will miss you. At least, for me anyways.

But you see that's the thing. At long range the AR is practically useless because of how inaccurate it is. But the closer something gets, the less distance the bullets travel, and the less opportunities to go far off course. Think of it this way. Actually, you could do an experiment.
Go to the Island mod. Once you have loaded the map, make sure you are at Red Base, or wherever there are the Covenant's ground shields, and make sure you have an AR. Go around to the concave (curving in) side of a shield.
First, we're going to go from long distance. Try to get yourself fairly level with the shield, and from a fairly long distance. Fire at the shield. try to get an estimate of how many bullets hit the shield. Now do the same, except from a medium range, and the a close range (the close range should have you standing right in front of it). I will save you the trouble of short range, as a high majority, if not all of the bullets will hit. Each time you get close, there will be more and more bullets hitting. This is because there is less of distance for the bullets to make a major deviation.
You can also note how close together the bullets hit.
If you really want to see how much damage that the AR can do at close range, do the short range test. If you just hold down the fire key, the AR should kill you before you have to reload (without an over-shield).
So, at a medium to close range combat, the AR is more effective than might be thought, especially against vehicles with a wider surface area to hit.

Still >.> a sniper can kill anything and everything.
But yeah the AR can be used effectively at Medium range to close range (using burst fire for mid range), i've found in low ping/hosting using the PR and AR is viable combo (XD) the only real threat is those pesky snipers/long range pistolers.
