Mac Gaming Mods

So. I was without a power cord for a month. A new cord from Apple would have cost $70, I got a deal on a refurbished one for $44. Now, when I finally have my laptop to use again, guess what happens? The fucking headphone jack fails on me! I know it's not the headphones, because, hahah, surprise, they still work in the old Ipod Nano I'm using right now, the same old 2 Gb Nano which I switched to using for my music after the headphone jack in my Ipod Touch failed.

I'm sick of this. I'm sick of cheap mass-produced crap that doesn't work, I'm sick of huge corporations getting shittons of money from everyone, I'm sick of them making shitty rules and regulations for their crap just so they can sue people and get money and shit, or, in the case of EA recently, preventing other people from ever being able to sue them. I'm sick of them shoving their fucking advertising down our throats as if we're all the same and we all just love seeing their stupid fucking products, around 80% of which hold absolutely no interest to me, I'm sick of the greed, the control, for fuck's sake, their complete and utter LACK of control, the money being passed from hand to hand but kept away from everyone who needs it, the complete disregard for human interests and the continuation of life on Earth, the puffed up egotistical rich assholes who treat everyone else around them like garbage because they just want and want and want more and more and more, the people who consider themselves to be "privileged" because they have money, the people who try to grind others into the dirt so they can get more money...

Fuck, I'm so close to just saying "hell, let's all rebel!" In fact, at this point I'm viewing that as the best possible event that could ever occur within the next decade, short of a complete turnaround by these assholes. Yes, I know I'm no longer talking about Apple really, which was the title of this thread. Seriously though... Yesterday I talked to someone who had worked at a bed and breakfast. One day they had a family there, this "privileged," rich, Christian family, 9 kids and some adults. The adults didn't try and control the kids, literally let the kids smear peanut butter on the walls, saying "oh, the servants will clean it up." And I'm not lying when I use the term "servants," apparently one old lady actually was talking to the owner and said she personally wouldn't pay the "servants," referring to the girl I got this story from and her co-worker, who was from Puerto Rico. Referring to the co-worker, this lady said, "I wouldn't hire illegals either." They took rooms for the whole family, filling up the place, left it a mess when they left, and when they were out the door my friend who I got this story from said "those kids should clean up this peanut butter," to which her boss responded by telling her to be quiet because the door wasn't closed yet so the kids might be able to hear. Seriously? We're sucking up to these rich bastards THAT much? That when they do something like that, something so completely inappropriate, instead of criticizing them or telling them to fix it, or hell, telling them to leave in the first place, we try and make sure their spoiled brats don't hear us complain?

This isn't right. This isn't fucking right, and I know something's gotta change eventually, history dictates that something's gotta give eventually, or otherwise I just don't know what else is going to happen to the world. Living next to the highway, and now, walking home on that highway as I must currently, running on the highway for cross country when I was in high school, I always hated seeing all the trash people throw out their car windows, all the shit that piles up. It's all from people like this. They don't deserve anything they own.

That's not to say that ALL rich people are assholes... still though. I mean, fuck. The hell is wrong with humanity, why can't we just get shit right? I feel like people like this need to be reeducated, for fuck's sake, to relearn proper fucking decorum and manners and get a fucking personality change...

the thought of a revolt makes me want to jump up and beat my chest, but sadly the reason this wont happen is because the world as changed to an even more 'total control' than ever before. we can have half the population protesting at the white house, enoug vibrations and all it comes down to is a phone call, then were mowed down we ould be slaugtered for trying to do what we believe in. an honor i would have no problem dying for, its just the figure of if it would truly do anything...

I dunno Kiyoshi, at times I love humanity, at other times I hate it.

Also, this was partially in response to Bethesda continuing the court case against Mojang, which I think is just plain control-freak, greedy assholery at its worst.

Try being more active, you can't solve all the world's problems. For example I always tried to butt into peoples business and figure out how to solve things when the entire time I've been alive I've been bipolar. I was diagnosed with the disorder about 2 months ago and it got me removed from college for awhile and almost left me homeless. But now I'm happily and actively searching for a job and the proud owner of a husky pup of 6 weeks. Humanity has it's dark times, for everyone. The important thing is to endure and bring more happiness to yourself because then those around you will be much happier. For example helping animals makes me happy, so I've applied at the animal shelter and will be volunteering until i get a job to help animals find new homes.

Remember, we all have our dark moments. It's how you deal with those times and make yourself better as a person despite them that makes the difference.

Apple has shitty hardware. That's been a definite fact and is all the more prevalent as hardware is really fucking cheap but Apple sells $2000 computers.

No single human can solve humanity's problems.
Humanity is composed by individuals that believe that.

I don't know if caring anymore. Everything gets me depressed.

I agree with you on pretty much everything Kayar. I tend to hate society/humanity all the time, though for bit different things than you. Just stoping to look around makes it unbearable. Look at all these middle-high school girls starving their selves because the models on the front of magazines are skinny. I have 4 friends who cut because they aren't happy with their appearance. I have tried to say this outwardly to these people but they only think I'm like that because I was more privileged and 'can be a model.' I do not get why they have to shove down our throats that looks matter for everything, honestly if we didn't have the media beating us down with models and stuff; there would be less self consciousness and even suicides. I myself have tried to commit suicide before because i was so fed up with everything, but I know that I would be doing nothing but harm to the people who are still here. It just pisses me off that humanity is so tainted, we are the only species that starves itself to look unhealthily skinnier; while the other 500 species try to get healthy. Homosexuality is in 500+ species, but homophobia is only in 1. Honestly people need to just stop getting it through their head that they are the only entity on this earth. Of course we are so deep in shit that we can not get out anywhere near easily. We will still have war, suicides, and just plain greed.

PS: I was so pissed at the minecraft thing too. Like not just cause i like minecraft and stuff...I just think if it wasn't about greed and if they agreed to the friendly settlement...it's just ugh.

Installing OS X on unsupported hardware like you mention is a great idea if you want to break things. Do you honestly think OS X will run better on unsupported hardware? Yeah, right. I expect there to be major bugs and flaws that may not be immediately obvious initially, and even if you claim, "oh, it works fine for me" you can't claim "oh it will work fine for you" because of the mass different hardware setups PC's provide you, that apple does not support.

Aesthetics, I've seen nothing better than Apple's hardware, really. A couple of desktop computers that are compact and require almost no cables hooked up to them? Have you seen the super light-weight portable laptops? The quality of Apple's trackpads on their laptops?

Apple makes good use of platform control for their hardware too. They can implement universal-wide gestures on their operating system that will work on all of their laptops, for example. This is because Apple designs all of their computers. They have great hardware consistency. More consistent hardware means the OS is easier to develop for as far as applications go. Using os x on a PC like you suggest means you're walking away from this big benefit.

One can argue that their computers are not really suitable for gaming because they're behind with graphics cards and what not, and it may be kind of true, but gaming to me is really not that important anyway. One may also point out their iMacs (their medium-level desktops) are not upgradable, but I say buying new non-upgradable computer on a ~3 yearly basis is a better approach than keeping a computer for too long and upgrading limited parts anyway. They don't sell 200 dollar computers, because they don't want to sell low-end computers. Again, if they can control the hardware for all of their computers, their platform becomes easier to innovate for.

So, maybe you can see my perspective in why I think Apple's hardware is good.

And, more on-topic, I agree with Nil that Apple has a great overall hardware setup; admittedly, there are a few things that they need to get their act together on (like the broken logic board on my 1 month old macbook pro), but it's a pretty good overall system, and with applecare, hardware malfunctions are covered. In regards to customization, as Nil said, there is a reason for Macs being as uniform as they are, having more variety just creates a hassle. Like the different sizes of power chords (probably not a problem for anyone else). Also, I believe you can bring your mac to an apple store and have it upgraded, they just don't want people doing their own mindless meddling with the hardware.

Legally, there is no point to the claims that you can't sue EA because the law (at least in australia) is that anyone can sue anyone, The reason why you wouldn't, is because it would cost you tens of thousands of dollars.
Those things are called Exclusion causes, while they look official, they are merely there to scare you.

This was what I was referring to in terms of EA. Admittedly it's just Origin users, and I'm not sure I'd even heard of Origin before seeing this, but still, it's the principle of the thing, the fact that they got away with this...

The thing is though, people don't have to agree to the terms of service, and if they didn't then this wouldn't be an issue because they would have to change it or lose customers. The problem is the mind set of people is "I will do <x> after everyone else does <x> because I don't want to be missing out while waiting for other people" so these things never get done.
