Sleeping pills are meant to help with occasional sleeplessness. I recommended them to her for the purpose of helping her get into a routine of sleeping during a certain time frame. I highly doubt you'll get an addiction after a couple days of taking one pill a night. After that, don't take one, unless you do happen to wake up in the middle of the night, and can't get back to sleep.

But seriously, if you don't try options, the only other thing you should do is to go see your doctor.
