Some of the best games I have ever played have been:
Tremulous (modern, free (ioq3)) (plenty of mods)
Prince of Persia (OS9) (original)
Descent (OS9) (2) (source released for both) (3 was pretty fun, but didn't have the same feeling as the others)
Systems twilight (OS9)
Battlefield 1942 (modern, not free)
Halo (demo, CE (bootcamp  ) (duh!)
Elite force (OS9, not free) (2 (modern, not free))
Net hack (modern, free)
EVNova (modern, not free)
Marathon (modern through Aleph One, free) (2, 3, mods)

Download it on Apple, The gameplay is unique and you can have up to 32 players in any server.
You basically Build your base, including respawn points, armorys (Humans) and an overly extensive amount of traps and defenders for the aliens. Then, you try to destroy the enemy's base by evolving into gigantic poisonous brutes (Aliens) or Buying weapons and armor in the armory (humans).
I play that, very nice game, and the ability to call votes in the game

combat arms is fun (for pc) and theirs hardly any hacker these days since only Vip hacks (Costs money hack) are not hacked and hardly anyone uses vip hacks anyway but the nx and renting system is shit but Quarintine is pretty fun. Also you can kick hackers by vote

Both Tremulous and Urban Terror are based on the Quake 3 engine. IMO Urban Terror is way better made, cleaner models, much more configurable options. Tremulous has a wonderful concept but IMO it's not being carried out well.

I noticed the similarities and guessed Tremulous was also based off it too when I found out UT was.
Yeah, I'm actually pretty addicted to Urban Terror. It's amazingly well done, and I like the player created content. Oh yeah, and fighting underwater is fun. And not many games take notice that a laser sight is visible in gas, adds a new element to smoke grenades because you can get an angle on where your opponent is. Same with fighting in the water, it becomes easier to find a target when it's murky (Like on Eagle). Doors can allow you to track someone if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, I found most of the maps seemed to favor one team in the positioning of flags and spawns. Red team usually had to move more to get to (and defend) their own flag, while blue would sometimes be far too open for effective and efficient defense.
However, some maps hit it spot on. I found Kingdom to be a map that surprised me in many ways just by following my (More experienced) teammates. On blue I found it quite like the feel of infiltrating red base, going in through a window on the roof or smoking your way through the dining room. Or, if your one of the guys who likes to take an unsilenced Negev, Kevlar and extra ammo, there is a nice side route to take you straight through all of the action.

That's why my fave map is Uptown; Algiers isn't bad either.

People play so much *no doors* Turnpike it's boring, but it's a good map. Lots of little hiding spots to hide and ninja people. Won many a game that way messing around XD
