What spec is your Mac running Ghost Recon???
I have a confession - I am still running Ghost Recon with my trusty old Blue & White G3 (converted to a 500 G4).*
I will probably (finally) be updating to a newer Mac this summer - but it makes me wonder if there are other Mac users like myself out there who are running Ghost Recon on the minimum spec level too.
What is your Mac spec?
-------------------
*Believe it or not I can run everything up to Desert Siege very well. Island Thunder is a bit over the limit though, as are any total conversions that depend on IT of course.
But running everything on low I easily manage GameRanger games without kicing everyone's pings. What a bloody lovely thing the Mac is! (I have the max 1gig of RAM and an ATI Radeon 32mb card which helps).

When I still played Ghost Recon I played on a 450 G4 and had no problems. A few of the IT maps and some third party maps caused some lag but that was mostly if I was playing coop with tons of stuff going on.

G4, 768 mb RAM, 1.2 ghz, 32 mb Radeon - All graphical settings are set as low as can be; except for the setting of 1024 X 768. Most all GhR gameplay is fairly smooth. The only real difficulty I ever encounter is framerate loss during the playing of certain COOP games in which the enemy count is 70+. However, depending on the map, this framerate issue less an issue if the map is not apart of IT.
Yah sure ya betcha!!

This is all very interesting - I expected a load of replies saying 'G5, 1gig RAM' and some silly-powerful graphics card!
My G3 is now a G4 with a 500 ZIF upgrade - but even so it does struggle. Anything that depends on "Island Thunder' crawls and I have to have ALL the graphics setting set to low.
I suppose I could use my PC - but I like to use GameRanger and Macs! It's a nice community.
I do hope to be taking possession of a brand new 1.4 G4 17" PowerBook (128mb Radeon) soon...Which will be nice!
...And at this point I might feel well equiped enough to actually serve GR & GRd games on GameRanger. Now that would be cool!

It's quite common for most GhR players to have a lower end system, GhR is one of the only games that isn't to hard on the processor. That being said, the people that don't have a newer computer, gives them even more reason to still play GhR.
Here's my set-up's:
G3 blue & white
1.1 GHz (upgraded G4 proccesor, YAR!)
128 MB ATi 9200 Video Card
Gig of RAM
GhR settings on medium (30+ FPS)
1024x768
G4 12" Powerbook
867MHz
32Mb GeForce Video Card
640 MB RAM
GhR settings on low (20+ FPS)
800x600
G5 iMac
1.8 GHz
64MB GeForce Video Card
512 MB RAM
GhR settings on medium (30-60+ FPS)
1152x720

"You can't spell slaughter without laughter."
I have a Powerbook with the following specs:
1.5Ghz
1.25GB RAM
ATI 9700, 128MB
I run most of the GhR settings on High with very little lag, except on some mods that have a ton of things moving on the screen.
For comparison, when I am playing Rainbow 6, I have to run most of the settings on medium.
I also use the ATI preference panel that lets me optimize the graphics for each game.

G4 700 MHz eMac, 32MB GeForce2 MX with 768 MB RAM runs Ghost Recon fine with everything set to highest with the exception of full-detail shadows. If I get online (ever) I set things down a tad to keep it at optimum speed but most of the time when I play GhR or Raven Shield I use Speed Freak to boost performance that much more. Raven Shield runs fairly well with everything set relatively low except for textures and lightmaps etc. I set those to medium and they run fine. All the stock maps run fine although a lot of the downloaded ones run like crap.
The enemy diversion you're ignoring is the main assault.
