[Bitmap Mod] Thag's Huddies

Post by Sven » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:40 am

Tired of the boring Hud Reticules used in halo demo?
Want something new?

Then try Thag's Hud Reticules!

Every Hud Reticule in the game has been modified (Except for the sniper rifle).
Includes a custom sky!
All the bitmaps used in the mod have been included in PNG files for your use in mods. Requirements to use : Must know how to import bitmaps. (I don't mind you using them just please credit me).

Thanks to:
Flaming Bunnies for giving me the idea. (You gave me the idea with your database, and no I'm not stealing your job. This is a mod not a database).

MGM, for not burning Thag the noob at the stake.

Interesting, I'll probably try this.
I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

Alright, I have feedback now:

For the plasma pistol, I'd get rid of the side bars. Just looks kinda weird IMO.

I liked the original banshee HUD better; this looks like some kind of smiley face joke :(.

Also, when driving in a warthog in the driver seat (either machine or rocket), the reticle for the gunner is way too noticeable, which it shouldn't be. I'd probably suggest to stick with the older one.

I liked all the other weapons.

Suggestions taken. I will fix this in V2.

Oh and yes I also like the plasma rifles pimp pants.

Reticles should be:

1. a visual aid (not distracting or obstructive)
2. simple to use (so you don't have to be looking at the reticle for a long time to adjust the shot)
3. very functional

Remember, the basic idea is to "paint" the target with the reticle or aiming device, so move one image to another. If it's a small dot, it will be too hard to see it. If it's something huge or overly complicated, it will likely obscure the actual center point.

The X, + and O shapes are standard, although may not be so great, unless you have bullets that spread within that area, all the way to the ends of the lines also. I think something along the lines of this might be best:

Code: Select all

        |

       ( )

        |
or

Code: Select all

--- ( ) ---

or

Code: Select all

  \ /
   \ /
    \ /
      .
    / \
   / \
  / \

or you could obscure everything except the middle area, like making a grayscale image over everything but a circle in the middle.

Test the reticle for usefulness. Do the rocket launcher horizontal lines matter, and do the fuel rod lines help you gauge where the shot will land on the ground?
Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.
