This is weird. Why do the demo equivalents of the b30.map, ui.map and bloodgulch.map files have two extra tags than their full version counterparts? I don't know what these extra tags are, but even though they're not in Halo Full, I'm going to include them. But not in the final tag count, just in the Incyclopedia resource map. The official full count is still 9,924. (I had to revise it after I found out that my demo base bloodgulch map had 2 extra tags that the full one didn't have.)

:!:
Looks to be a bug in reading the maps. When I imported all the demo tags from the demo ui.map file, it didn't add any new tags to the file that already had the full ui.map's tags imported. So apparently, there are actually two fewer tags than the demo maps say they have. Which brings the full map tag count back to 9926, instead of 9924. Sorry for the confusion. (Zap still wins.)

EDIT: Wow, my logic just Phailed. I was importing into the demo bloodgulch.map, which actually had two fewer tags than was listed. So that means the final number is 9924 again. ARGH! I'll double check with the official version.

By the way, the official Volume 1 contains all the Halo Full tags (uninternalized) in a full-version bloodgulch.map file.
The contest winner, Zap, gets all the Halo Full tags internalized into a demo bloodgulch.map file.
Since this is still just the first time so many tags have ever been imported using the latest Eschaton, it's considered a beta release. Once we confirm its usability through testing, it'll be official, and will come with a full version, internalized, also.

Sorry for the triple post.

Beta Version Public Release of Volume 1

It's still uploading as of this post time. But the download's size is a mere 24.4 MB as a zipped file. It'll be up within 15 minutes, so you can start downloading it a little after 2:30 AM, EST.

There will be four editions of the Incyclopedia when it is completely finished:
Edition A - demo version with uninternalized tags (only for reference purposes)
Edition B - demo version with internalized tags (for browsing and modding purposes)
Edition C - full version with uninternalized tags (Volume 1 for browsing/modding purposes, CE volume(s) for reference purposes)
Edition D - full version with internalized tags (for browsing and modding purposes)

There will most likely be three volumes with each edition:
Volume 1: Halo Full Tags
Volume 2: Halo Demo Tags
Volume 3: Halo CE Tags

Thus, the shorthand for referring to the entire Incyclopedia can be formed as:
IncyA1 - demo reference of Halo Full Tags
IncyB3 - demo (internalized) of Halo CE Tags

...and it just so happens that those two files are currently available! The first topic post will be updated with a color-coded list of all the available files. Check there.
\ :) /

P.S. Taxi, I think that those are glitches, and that the demo maps don't actually have two additional tags. I tested it with the ui.map file, anyway, which seems to have the least number of tags and yet has the greatest number of unique tags of all the [at least multiplayer] maps.

Re: [REFERENCE MOD] Incyclopedia {New details on page 9}

Post by Sparky » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:52 pm

New Details:

With the dawn of Eschaton 0.8, I've decided to make the Incyclopedia into a massive tag pack, rather than (or in addition to) a single, large map file. Here's how it will work:

If you've made a mod and would like to add your modded work to the Incyclopedia, rename all the tags that you modded so they start with (fill in the blanks):

your-name\your-mod\

example: Moxus\Crossing\weapons\BB gun (or whatever)

Then rebuild your map and recursively export the tags into a folder. Then zip that directory of folders, upload it somewhere (halodemo ftp might be easiest, ftp://ftp.halodemo.net, else use mediafire or filefront) and send me a link to the zipped file so I can download it and add it to the Incyclopedia.

Some tags cannot be exported as tags (like sbsp and maybe scnr and matg), so I'm not sure yet what I'll do with those. Maybe there will be two versions, a tag pack and also a huge map file. However it works out, it'll be convenient and thorough.

Whatever the format, the initial goal is to make it available by the end of the first week of August.
Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.
