Having learned how to use the HEK and knowing how challenging it is, I am impressed by many of the CE maps and tags. Note that testing changes in a CE map takes 5x longer than testing changes in Halo Demo. We edit the map file (cached file) directly, they rebuild the entire map over and over and over and over... testing in CE is extraordinarily time-consuming and indefinitely frustrating.

Then you don't have as much modding experience as some of us on these forums. The only CE map I have ever been truly impressed with was Church. And that was only impressive graphically, because the gameplay in it sucked.

And how many CE maps have YOU made?

My point is that it is more difficult than you might imagine.

I don't think you got the point. CE is not modding, it is content creation. Content creation is going to be easier than modding because you are handed the tools. Modding you have to make the tools yourself.

I can't agree with that, having made CE and Demo maps. My experience tells me that creating your own new tree just so you can carve your initials into it would be more difficult and time-consuming than simply modding an existing tree, carving them into an existing tree.

I believe that our Demo maps are creative in different ways than the CE ones. We come up with new themes, and that makes them really fun. They come up with entirely new environments, rather than themes. Therefore, it takes a different kind of appreciation for either type of map/mod. There have been oodles of renditions of bloodgulch, and the creative modding takes a different appreciation than the time-consuming, painstaking efforts of creating new content in 3d studio max: creating new models, rigging them, tagging them so they function how you want, testing by endlessly rebuilding the maps over and over... it's a veritable nightmare. On the other hand, our Demo tools are made much friendlier (for the most part) and have a very shallow learning curve in comparison. And a several amazing new mods can be made within 15 minutes!

Since the two types of map creation are so vastly different, let's appreciate them differently.

EDIT: I suppose you want to argue that it was easy for me to make that new simple BSP. Quite the contrary. I had to ask the help of a friend to make the scenario file. It was more frustrating than you might think. CE tools are a bitch. Until you have made your own CE map, I can't accept anything you say about their "ease of use".

Because this is not going anywhere and this map which was the original topic of conversation is not impressive in any way.

CE tools are very easy to use. :| I've made many CE maps, and one like this would've taken only about ten minutes. The hard part is not using the tools, it's creating models and the such, which isn't too related to making CE hard.

if you could raise a part of a map and make a sort of tunnel that mc could go in that would be really cool!

Du-uh, it's a Flat Gulch.

Sandpit would have the same gameplay, except Sandpit is smaller. (and looks better too..) :P
