Wrong! Dirt looks better than cobblestone. It looks more natural. Cobblestone is just...ugh.
Wood is aesthetically pleasing. I use it for my structure because the server i'm in is anti-creepers (damage, but no explosion to prevent "griefers" luring creepers into houses and blowing them up) and anti-fire (fire is disabled, but lava works). Use logs for edges and planks for structure. Smooth half steps look good with it too.
