Re: PROGRAMMING/coding
X11 itself will not program things for you. It's basically terminal without a scrollbar but it can open X11 applications like Gimp, MacRadiant, and the KDE Desktop.
Xcode requires that the user knows Objective-C to create a Cocoa application and C++ if you're creating a Carbon application. If you are wanting to create a Cocoa application, a good place to start would be http://cocoadevcentral.com. Xcode's documentation also helps if you've learned Cocoa or C++ but downloading and installing it (for me) takes longer than you would expect.

Re: PROGRAMMING/coding
Xcode supports Objective-C/Objective-C++/C/C++/Java and it might support other languages via Plugins.
You will want to get this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cocoa-Programming ... t_ep_dpt_2
Excellent guide to learning cocoa and how it works.

Re: PROGRAMMING/coding
You don't need so many maps. I'd delete the maps and redownload them if they are needed.

Re: PROGRAMMING/coding
Tip: If you have access to an install disk, check that. There should be a folder called extras, and in there you should find the Xcode Suite. I got mine off a 10.5 install disk. It's version 3.1, and it came with some other cool applications, like Quartz Composer. Im having lot's of fun with that. Who knew that blurring a live video feed from the cam according to the peak sound level coming from the mic would be so interesting. And that's one of the most stupidly basic things you can do. Takes live 3 minutes to set up.
Also, if you have not already searched your computer for Xcode, there is a slight possibility you already have it. I think it came pre-installed on some computers. If you can't find it with spotlight, go to the hard drive folder on Finder and find the "Developer" folder.
From what I looked at a second ago, Xcode handles mainly C++, Objective-C, Carbon, Cocoa, Java, Applescript, and some other stuff (Ruby and I think Python were mentioned somewhere). Love how they merged Xcode and Interface Creator as well. That should help when I start trying to make real applications and not just command line stuff.

There's also Netbeans which can handle several languages though primarily java.
The armaments which thunderstrike the walls
And monarchs tremble in their capitals.
The oak leviathans, whose huge ribs make
Of lord of thee, and arbiter of war;
Alike the Armada's pride, or spoils of Trafalgar.
