You are right, we have no defense.
But we can at least blame someone else for creating it in the first place.
Fun fact: It seems we can't even standardize feet and yards without the meter. How sad is that.
Also, the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1 ⁄ 299,792,458 of the time it takes for a Cesium 133 atom to oscillate 9,192,631,770 times.
In other words, a meter and a second, respectively. I'm taking Physics, btw. This is relevant.

I think it's because the Month/Day/Year is used in cataloguing, you wouldn't catalogue by day, you catalogue by month, then shorten that down by day, and then year.

Month/Day/Year is used because when you're dealing with large quantities of files or papers, it's easiest to first find the month you're looking for and then the specific date. Nubbins.

I did that because blue without the background is unreadable <.> and I could not be bothered going around changing all the colour codes again, so I just slapped a black background on it.
