^I think that JPEG is a good image format already.
Unless you were going for transparency, then GIF would do it.
I haven't touched photoshop in a long time, I might be wrong.
EDIT: Oh yea its PNG for transparency not GIF. By the way, what do you mean by artifacts?

There's artifacts in .jpg, I normally use png.
