Releasing Halo 1 Mac on HDM

I'm wondering if Bungie will ever make Halo 1 a free download like they did the Marathon series.
Now that Halo 1 has had a Universal Binary remake, the multiplayer games on the old version of Halo 1 (PPC) are dust.
Now that Halo 1 is going to be released in November-ish for another console platform owned by Microsoft, what can be said for Halo 1 Mac PPC?
Will any income be lost by releasing it at HaloDemoMods.com? Amazon.com has only USED copies being resold for over $100, and there are only 9 left. E-Bay has only copies being sold for around $200. What gives? It's not even the UB versions and not even new copies of the game that are being sold. The game is for all purposes dead as its release for Mac PPC. And Lion won't even support running PPC applications, which means there is a very very limited lifespan for Halo 1 Mac PPC. At that time, it will be even LESS likely that ANYONE would buy ANY application for PPC. It seems like every Mac app created now is released at least as a Universal Binary if not just for Intel Macs. Furthermore, Halo 1 PPC is 32-bit, and Apple has clearly stated on its web site that its 64-bit computers are "ready for the future".
And the CD Key is required in order to use the $5 UB version you download from MacGameStore.com. According to the first comment on the page, Windows versions of the game have CD keys that don't work with the Mac UB version.
So if we put Halo 1 Mac PPC on HDM, and I don't include the CD key for the game, no one would be for the worse. And the map files and other things could be used in Halo Demo mods.
Also consider that I'm making the INCY to work with Zeus.

With these points stated, are there any sound objections to releasing Halo 1 Mac PPC on HaloDemoMods.com?

What's the point again? No one is going to want the PPC version (which by the way is nothing but an outdated Full version). No one cares about income, they don't make anything significant off of Halo PC anymore even either, and it's completely irrelevant. People will still need to pirate a CD key. Halo Mac CD keys have 4 more digits, of course they aren't compatible with WIndows ones. Instead of uploading illegal content on HDM like you always want to do, just let people google torrents for Halo, like they have always been able to do, like real pirates, if anything.

The torrent takes a day, and I think the UB should be uploaded as a dmg.

If the torrent takes longer (and that probably isn't always the case), then that is more the reason not to upload Halo onto HDM. Let piraters be.

The point is to keep the game archived somewhere public so it is not lost. I realize technologies change, and people lose stuff (but I even still have CDs and Floppy Disks of 1990's software) and the PPC version will become useless quite soon, but besides being played, the map files are there and can be modded. Think about how much longer people will be playing any PPC game -- including Halo Demo -- and that the demo version of this game is highly unlikely to be recreated by anyone inside of a company setting (because companies just want to make money -- look at Microsoft, for example). Yet at this moment, there are still many new players each day on the Halo Demo multiplayer servers, and look at all the mods we've published at HDM alone. It's now or never.

Zeus's mission is related: ...to expand the resources available to modders of every platform's release of the Halo games...

Yes I def think you should do it. First of all it wouldn't be giving away, people will still have to pirate cd keys. But we can mod the maps on demo :D (I have a good B Action mod idea...)

So you plan to archive something that will be unusable in the future and already unbearable to use now. You say it comes with the map files which are also illegal to distribute. If you insist on uploading it, please do *not* upload the map files - those can be fetched elsewhere and won't be as easily lost. They aren't unique to the PPC version at all. Also, honestly, I have never cared about archiving oudated versions of software when newer versions exist.

edit: I may have every ppc version actually but I'd need to check that when I get back on my computer.

Look all I care about is the map files. I think it would be very fun to start to mod and use some of them in demo.

Going by what nil said, I think I Halo Full is probably illegal to upload. But then again, I'm pretty sure this game will be as good as 'lost' in future, so why not just upload it? Just let the people who download it to figure out the CD keys themselves. :|
