Eeeek! Help w/ UB

Post by P!ckoff » Thu Dec 27, 2007 1:01 pm

Hey-

As some of you may know, my UB Halo Disk, which I payed $45 for, managed to get itself scratched beyond repair (I have tried). I have been thinking. Although it still loads and allows me to play, I cannot install, and now that my ancient computer upstairs is reading disks again, I cannot install it on that, and unfortunately, its is a PPC, so I assume I cannot transfer the Halo.app from this Intel. Or could I?

However, I do -obviously- have a legal, working UB cd-key, and I was wondering. Could I pay my $5 and buy the UB "update" using the UB cd-key I have, or will it not work because it is not a 1.5.2 key? Or because it requires 1.5.2 to be installed?

Honestly, I have to the point of wondering if I should search for some illegal download, which is NOT what I want to do if at all possible. Help?

Really?

But, when you go to "See package contents" under a PPC Halo.app, the first folder is "ppc" and Intel "Contents." I will try it anyway....

It's likely that you'll simply have to get rid of your documents. If you bought the UB edition (which means Universal), you have the version which is made to be able to function on either and Intel or a PPC. Theoretically, you should be able to transfer it (although I've never had any experience transferring).

Many thanks to the people who have made my years on MGM and on Halo Demo so memorable.

Thanks, I think it is pretty obvious that I know what UB is...

However..... It does work! I thought for a sec there that the installer on the disk installed different versions for different types.... after all, the .app is only 1.2 GB or something and a disk can hold up to 4.7 GB or something...

Also.... If two computers are close to each other, and both have an AirPort Extreme card but no base station, can they still talk to each other?

Yes. P2P networks are very simple. Just go to the airport tab and use create network.

Of course if you want to do FTP it's even easier if you mount the other computer via file sharing.

Wait...... So I can share files between just two AirPort Extreme cards? Can I share an internet connection? And if so, what is the point of an AirPort Express or Extreme?

And EDIT: What is FTP? I have heard of it, but I am not good with acronyms.

File transfer protocol. Usually used as a verb for file transfer. Just log in to the other computer via finder->network and you'll be able to do it easily. The reason for an airport is that it can handle multiple net connections a lot better than your computer can. It usually has a stronger antenna as well. But yes you could do everything with just one computer plugged in with internet sharing enabled.
