random idea: Tag patcher
ok the name is misleading. I just wanted to know what it would take(and if a good idea) to make an app where you could take a map and have it detect tags modified. you then choose a different map and add/replace the tags for that map. there would be a box for "dont overwrite tags" and a list of tags with boxes next to each. this would ignore Sbsp and have Scnr unchecked by default. thoughts?
Re: random idea: Tag patcher
So, you screw up for mod, and don't know how to fix a tag and use this app? Seems easier just to meta inject.
Re: random idea: Tag patcher
Isn't that the PPF patcher?
Check out the Tools page and see if that has what you're describing.

Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.

Re: random idea: Tag patcher
Oh yes I forgot to ask if this was what PFF's were. and no modzy this is if you want your tags to be in multiple maps just in case you forget all the tags you modified or its easier to distribute them across the other maps ect.
edit: No sparky ppf is for a specific map. I want this because it would be easier to replace/copy modified tags over to different maps. This probably belongs in the Halo section as it has almost no use for halo demo.

So you want an application that exports/imports for you? >.>

Re: random idea: Tag patcher
I think he wants one that will move tagsets between maps. Like if i make AR, pistol, plasma rifle, i edited biped speed, etc, etc, in bloodgulch then i want to put all these modifications in b30. But still probably easier to just import tags <_>

I say: let time be consumed. We were already lucky enough to have Altimit develop Eschaton for us before he left.
Eschaton is a tool so powerful that made obsolete all of the other Mac modding applications. o_o I don't think you have ever tried rebuilding a map with HMT, have you? Or importing tags with HHK? Or, well, even tried swapping two tags using HexEdit? If you did you'd give another meaning to ‘time consuming’.
Or if your Eschaton does take a lot of time to do an action it… probably means your computer is too old? Or is running on an obsolete system? idk!
Anyway: When I need an already edited weapon from another map I just export it from the map i've edited it into and import it in the new map.
When I make a weapon I rename all of the tags it uses. If I duplicate, say, a model and modify its shader I rename both of them mod2 and soso's and assign them to the new weapon. In this way when I go importing it there won't be conflicts with the existing tags.
Or if the changes are just a few value edits, such as for ammo counts or projectiles spread, i just do them again. Geez. ¬_¬

Re: random idea: Tag patcher
Hey people I have no problem with importing all the tags. I just find this more efficient. Also yes taxi, I have done all those nice little projects one time or another, I do not enjoy hex editing ill tell you that. also I may point out that some of my halo full maps have a rebuilding problem.

It'd be more efficient for you to learn how to create said application and then do it.

You know, I have daydreamed and theorized about the same app. It was just too dumb to propose online.Mgalekgolo wrote:ok the name is misleading. Re: random idea: Tag patcher
Actually i once thought about something somehow similar too!
You know how PhotoShop has an automatize function? It is able to ‘record’ your actions and repeat them automatically in a series of documents. Well, what if Eschaton was able to do something like that?
You would press the Record button and by going into a certain tag and changing a certain value, Eschaton would repeat these actions into the other maps you tell it to. o_o
Well, maybe the Record button would be harder to program than, say, a script that the user has to write, but the automatizing feature could be cool. (if anyone's interested in programming this thing: let me know, i have more ideas about the recording process)
Too bad (for us) that Altimit is now living his own life. Who knows if he'll ever come back?

Re: random idea: Tag patcher
Automator would do pretty much want you want, except of course there are bugs with Automator's clicking and it would take more time than necessary to do it all. But I see many bugs with said program and I still believe importation is just simpler. Because what if someone imported a tag outside of the record button and then while recording swapped it in to the scnr or something. Or what if a mod changed the physics of a ghost and then used that for the warthog. When you run this method trying to change the ghost yourself you'll end up doing unwanted things to the warthog. Also, when have you ever wanted to move an abundance of tags across more than 2 maps?
