Operation "Retrieval"

Post by Sparky » Thu Feb 17, 2011 8:35 am

Operation "Retrieval" commences at 12:00 EST, February 17, 2011.

Phase 1
* Scour MGM and retrieve all Halo / Halo Demo mods.
* Upload the files to HDM

Phase 2
* Scour the internet and retrieve all Halo / Halo Demo mods.
* Upload the files to HDM

Phase 3
* Profit

Progress Report: 14:23 - After searching for *www* through 57 pages, about 200 potential links to mods were found, besides those linked at HDM. Since there were over 250 pages matching the search criteria, at this rate, I estimate about 800 mods will be found linked on MGM alone. Most of these will probably be mediafire / filefront dead links.

Any plans to have a featured mods section on HDM? If there were a few mainstream mods that a lot of people had it might be easier to find servers.

That's quite reasonable, and possible!
Fixed.

If we could FIND as much as we can,
that just might work.

This reminds me of integrating [MT] mod reviews in order to feature new mods. What I could do is combine the [MT], featured mods and dedicated hosting concepts and host a couple "dedicated servers" of featured mods. This would be one day at a time, hosting a new mod for most of the day. Players could periodically download the mod, join, and comment while playing. I could periodically stop in the room to play and record some gameplay footage. Then we could make a page at HDM for the mod (or better, modify its file download page) and invite players to add their comments to the file's discussion page. The main file's page could include the [MT] mod review and a link to the (youtube?) video footage, or embedded video on the page.

Yes, this operation is supposed to be a group effort. If you have any mods that you've released but they're on mediafire or filefront, please add their link here in this topic and then add them to HDM.

I naturally take no credit for the last one i posted. But yeh i hope that helps you in your search.

L4D V2 will be released as soon as AI syncing is possible, (if its ever found). And I also plan on Making Survival V2 which instead of being a game full of noob weapons, it will be more like a futuristic battle with advanced weapons.
