Stickies

Post by Løki » Mon Jan 11, 2010 9:33 pm

My suggestion for the stickies clutter/mess:
-Monoman, I feel you should make an app release board and move the stickies Eschaton 0.8.1 Release, Pearl 1.2, and The Cheat [Fixes] into that board.
-The topics Modding FAQ, Modding Halo PC, Mac, Trial, and Demo for Beginners, Mod Basics 101, Halo Demo Trouble Shooting, and Fun Dynamic Modding should be posted to HDM then deleted.
-Delete the topics Mod Hosting Times, Tag Release, Scripting & Other: Reference links, and Noobs: How to Play a Mod.

From here, make a super topic.

If you're coming here, there's a good chance you're going to want to get started modding Halo Demo, here are some links to start you out. Or, in case you just want to play mods, here's a small tutorial on the subject.
If you are on a mac (which most of you should be): click on these things in this order: Macintosh HD (or whatever your hard disk is named) -> Applications -> Halo Demo -> Maps. If you have not messed with anything, it should say this, in this order: b30.map, bitmaps.map, bloodgulch.map, sounds.map, ui.map. Change the bloodgulch.map to something like Originalmap.map . Sometimes the maps that you download may be about a size of about 5.5 mb. If it is, and if it does not end is .zip, you need to get Stuffit Expander; you can get it here: Stuffit Expander Link. Now, the size should be about 13 mb. Get the mod that you downloaded, take it to the place where you changed bloodgulch.map to Originalmap.map and place it there. THE MOD HAS TO BE TITLED bloodgulch.map. If it is not, it will not work. There, now everybody knows.....-LAPTOPER
So in the sub forums stuff, it would be

App release
Tutorials
Mod request

also, i was thinking adding "Mod release" to that, so we have a clean place to post mods, and monoman doesn't have to scavenger to find [mod] topics.

You've both got the right idea. I support this cleanup.

I think mod release is a little too much. Halo Demo would then cease to have meaning.

Um, not many threads in this forum are actually releases of any kind.. And work in progress or beta's don't count.
I am no longer active to Halo or MGM, and don't guarantee a response on the forums or through email. I will however linger around the discord room for general chatting. It's been fun!

Who would come to the Halo Demo section if there was no hope of mod releases?

There are no where near enough apps released to need a new board.

No one will ever read the super topic or check HDM for the required topics. Before I added the Tutorial board there was a super topic for all the tutorials with the tutorials posted on the main site. This didn't stop anyone from asking for a tutorial that was linked there. This still happens with the Tutorial board. No one checks that first before asking for a tutorial that is in there. Look how many questions about Eschaton and Pearl there are with them being stickied.

The number of stickies will not affect if someone will read them or not.

Still the Mod Release above Mod Request would work quite well.

I advocate the suggestion to add tutorials to HDM. Go to it! 8)
Perhaps tutorials.halodemo.net needs a revamp, with beginner tutorials and advanced tutorials.

^ agreed.

There's just so much tuts lying around in MGM, but no one posted them on HDM.
Maybe if we put it there, people might pay more attention to it.
I guess it makes sense, it might be harder to search for tutorials in a forum. And easier to find them on an organized, neat, database style wiki site.

I agree with Loki, that is kinda defeating the purpose of the main thread isn't it?

Year Bump.

Maybe my "how to mod" tutorial needs to be more friendly over at HDM. I should start simply by including a section for each modding tool: Eschaton, SwordEdit, and so on. Then we can refer all newbies to that page if they have a question such as "how do I make a new map" or any number of our FAQs. I'll get on it and expect some revisions from the rest of us.
