We are discussing how Stuffit is unneeded and that it is junk, and that the "how to play a mod sticky" thread is bad and wrong in saying that you need Stuffit to install a mod. The sticky thread is bad to the extent that I wouldn't recommend any novice that is interested in playing a mod to read it. Rather, I would just tell them myself how to install a mod.Beast O' Teh Sea wrote:<_> I just asked myself, "Why are we discussing how to unarchive things? >_>

Stuffit is not that necessary. Not many people use .sitx or .sit anyways

I have the full version... Even though you won't really need it, I still think it's useful.

Re: halo demo mods
That is only a select few out of a lot. Most are probably zip and anything that comes out now is probably not going to be a sit or sitx. And yeah, if they are sitx, I would blame the author for using it. I would like to note that *all* of 100+ mods listed on http://halodemomods.com/wiki/Mod_Database are zip.crazyshroom wrote:Most of the mods on MGM's download page such as....

Is The Unarchiver worth putting on our Tools page? http://tools.halodemo.net
Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.

Re: halo demo mods
you got a point nil. <.< thanks for opening my eyes.nil wrote:Sit and sitx files should, never, never, never, never be used by anyone at all ever anyway. I'll stress that point by saying that if anyone were to release anything in the open wide Macintosh world that used those formats, then they would definitely receive a lot of complaints. Using those formats nowadays is just having an excuse for telling someone to download a bad piece of software. I would blame the author for using such a compression format, not the user. Zip files of course can be unzipped nowadays without needing to download anything. Password archives can be left to The Unarchiver, a better alternative.
My point is that you should not need to download some other piece of software to install mods, and if you were to release them out in the public, then why would you password protect your zip files?
No one needs Stinking Stuffit.
edit:
And I'll be quoting my old post from CH.If you must download some program that unzips various amount of zip formats to fix your problem, do not download Stuffit (which is a piece of trash, by the way). It's amazing how many people use stuffit, put up with their 'trial's and annoying software updates, and junk it installs on their computer, and especially use 'sitx' or 'sit' formats when they find out people can't unzip the file and the lame excuse being "download stuffit" or "shouldn't stuffit have came with your OS?" (course not, since it's a piece of trash)
A good alternative for unzipping files is The Unarchiver, which handles various zip formats (even 'sit', which is a zipping format you SHOULDN'T be using anyway, edit: you shouldn't be using sitx either)
Some people are a showing disagreement to my post because they think the user should do extra work in order to install the mod. I am showing a disagreement to the posts above because I think you should make the installation process easier for the user. Which really makes more sense?
is that i've grown up using it since when i was a little child! <.< i remember it on my old OS9s XD but well... yeah,
i already had the unarchivier and... meh. the only problem is that it does not creates archivies. <.< anyway i'll keep using DropTar and DropsStuff if needed.
EDIT: PS: @ sparky, yeah. it must! o.o

Re: halo demo mods
Why does it matter?
Yes, stuffit is virtually useless, its good for .sit and .sitx, and most of us who were willing to take 30 seconds out of our life to get it so we can unarchive certain things found it worth while.

Re: halo demo mods
I don't see an argument for how it is bad, he says...
and if the file isn't archived as a .zip, then you will need another un-archiving software, stuffit is an easy to get un-archiving software, so why not recommend it to newbies?LAPTOPER wrote:if it does not end is .zip, you need to get Stuffit Expander
