Random Freezes in Halo Demo

Halo Demo randomly freezes even when settings are turned all the way down. It doesn't matter if I'm playing a game or in the UI, it will randomly freeze.

I'm assuming only rendering has frozen. When I'm hosting, the clients do not see any problems. Also, the keyboard and mouse still react and I can still send messages and use/enable the console to type in "quit".


Specifications of my computer:

iMac G5 1.6GHz
Mac OS X 10.5.8
512MB DDR SDRAM
NVidia GeForce FX 5200




Pictures: I can't take a picture of it - I could take any picture and show you, telling you it's frozen, even if it really isn't.

Just imagine Halo Demo suddenly stopping. The sound and graphics have stopped.



Edit: All video and sound settings (except for volume) are either at lowest or are off. I'm also playing Halo Demo in a window.

weel... probably lag. idk, but b30 likes to crash when you clear the path and beat the first hunters when you see the second hunters -_-

maybe an issue with Rosetta (is this an intel mac? i never used a g5 before) and the nvidia graphics card and the game. i know there is an emulation issue with graphics and buffering and somesuch nonsense in a wine-emulated program i have. but this really doesn't sound like the problem for you. it sounds like an intel/ppc issue more than a rendering problem. not an opengl issue, which would continue running the sound while the rest of the game freezes.

anyway, do you have the shaders folder that you need? get it from HDM if you don't.

Graphics card or some hardware issue maybe? I don't know.

Sparky, there's no emulation involved whatsoever. Rosetta only exists on intel machines for one. Two, it exists to emulate old and outdated PPC programs such as Halo Demo. Three, a G5 is a PPC.

It might be a hardware issue. The full version of Halo does it.

Yep, I skipped right from PPC iBook G4 to Intel Mac Pro. Man, what an upgrade!
