Mod Downloader: Beta 1

Post by Samuco » Sat Oct 23, 2010 5:43 am

Download: http://www.samuco.net/HSync_0.1.pkg

Usage:
Simply install, launch the application and open halo demo.
When hosting a game, the program should automatically sync your map to the server. If it doesn't, try showing the leader board.
When joining a game, simply double click on a synced room (doesn't need to be) and it should automatically do it's thing.

To resync with a room:
Leave the room
Join another room
Leave that room
Join the original room again.

Or just simply relaunch halo...

--------------------------------------------------------------------
The program doesn't work very well for LAN games.
Please note that this probably won't work at all on your machine. It should in theory, but I doubt it will

Leave that room
Join the original room again.
Once again, am I the only one who sees a problem with this? From a dev standpoint?
You shouldn't halfass your applications man.

Since you have absolutely no idea about how the application actually works, please do not post comments about missing features. There are reasons why features are missing; some things aren't possible.
Please explain the code in which to fix this issue in the program or stop posting snide comments which don't help. You are a developer after all.

I'm just stating some obvious points. If you're going to create applications such as this, you should put a little more effort into it. An example, you rather than forcing the user to leave the game, join another server, and rejoin.. After receiving the mod and server information, your app could cancel the connection automatically, or quit halo, download the map, and then connect to the server via the direct ip function.

Also note, I haven't slept for like 4 days, so none of this probably makes any sense lol. But think of nil's application for connecting to games via a hyperlink, I'm referring to the same principle of connecting to the server.

The issue here is that when you leave a halo game, the IP Address doesn't actually get 'reset' in halo's memory. There (at the moment) is no way to know if the client leaves a server.
Does nil know another way to get the connected server ip?

Ask nil?

Theoretically, couldn't you use a simple TCPdump and verify the connection to the server? That way, when you leave the server, even though the IP isn't reset inside halo's memory, you could still determine if the connection was still established. Or an alternative of the sort?

Also, I hardly consider myself a developer. I just have random ideas.
