I'm planning to make a mod that will place you as a Forerunner soldier in the last days of the Forerunner, months before the firing of the Halos. It will begin in a armory aboard a Forerunner Dreadnought (the ones found in the Apex, not the Keyships), followed by either a slow orbital drop where you have to shoot Flood on the way down, (more awesome) or a teleport (less awesome) into a Flood infested area. Either way, you have to fight through a Forerunner structure and kill a Flood gravemind (like the one in the level Keyes) and then return to a pickup point. This whole idea, FYI, is inspired by Halo Legends: Origins 1.
So, I'd like to know your thoughts on the following:
- Has this been done before?
- Does anyone want it?
- Is it a good mod to make as a collab?
- Are there existing models of Forerunner stuff, outside of those already in Halo Demo? (Keyships, Forerunner clothes, etc.)
- Is the orbital drop idea possible? (It'd have to be a rather big map ...)
- If so, can I make positional music? (Like the easter egg in Assault on the Control Room)
- What's the current status of the legality of using Flood in Halo Demo? (Please only make your own comments about this. Please DO NOT reply to other users comments about this.)

the drop would be hard, but you just have to line up walls with the UI stars texture to make it seem like your floating down. (on your stomach) so you are really just walking through a tube but in game you are falling on your stomach.

Hmm. I'll think about that ... but how does it automatically move you through the tube? (It's meant to look like the drop in the opening cutscene of Halo:ODST, except you're walking out of the ship by yourself, (no drop pod) and you're dropping into a Forerunner city. And you're being attacked by Flood on the way.)

Ah ok ... I might try that. But how would this or the earlier suggested method save space?

Thanks! It will probably be a collab if I decided to do it. Watch for the thread.

It'll fit better with the story, but it'd be less awesome in terms of gameplay.

I will help with this if you want, the idea is very ambitious.
As for the drop, couldn't you just get a map (such as the ui one) were you can get the scenery/vehicle/thing and place it right up at the top, make yourself immune to falling damage (only hurts shields) make it low gravity and just jump? Or is that not what your looking for?

Yes, but it would require being very high up, sufficiently high that the map below would be immensely tiny. Because I'm planning to make it like the drop in Halo:ODST. Unless the map itself was high above on a floating platform, and the city below was just a texture.

Yes but if you made the gravity very low, it would seem like a massive drop and you wouldn't to compromise the map size...
I will make a test map and send you the results.
EDIT: Swordedit keeps failing on me, give me a few days...

But what would happen when you jump? And when the little Flood spores jump on you?

You could have the person spawn on a ship, with only one way out- through a tunnel with a hog in it. Make the hog have low grav(change the phyics) and make it so that passenger seat is the only seat availible, make it drive, and then keep fiddleing with it from there
And also, the idea seems very tough, but a nice idea. Very possible in CE, if anyone has it. But obviousley, i am not sure if its made in CE, if you should plan on giving it a full release.

Actually, I might use this idea in another mod - using Pelican controls to make a lift. I think this will be one of those mods to work on slowly, very slowly...

My suggestion for the drop is to do a simulation version: make a flat, transparent ground that is stationary and have the sky appear to be moving upwards constantly. You can achieve this effect with clouds or have someone like me make you the sky model for this.
If you simulate this, projectiles will be more effective, because they will actually shoot in a straight line. If you're really falling, they will move upwards as you fall and it'll be hard to aim without a very fast projectile like a laser or speedy bullet.
I was myself recently pondering how I might make a mod where you are falling the entire time. It would require a very large map or a teleporter at the bottom of your falling area that teleports you back to the top of the map (you can null out the teleporter effects so it's seamless). How to make everything fall with you at the exact same speed is another issue if you want to tackle it. I'm not familiar with that original version of the drop, so you'll have to decide if you want everything to be accessible like that, or if you want things to be farther away and falling at different speeds.
Either you are groping for answers, or you are asking God and listening to Jesus.
