Serverside Mission Operation Ivy

Post by Vir2L™ » Tue Oct 12, 2004 1:16 pm

Some of you know, some of you don't... Leary and I have been workin on some top secret tournament style missions and we are about to release them to the public. Operation Ivy will be included in the Alpha Squad MOD that is gonna release on Friday (October 15th).

We had a pretty good squad (GsTA clan from tacticalgamer.com) test Op.Ivy out for us and give us some feedback and this is what they wrote:

Excellent mission ! Awesome game/stealth concept. We inserted 8, mostly =GsTA=, plus we invited Luna and Hsantal', then after a couple tries, [grnet]pvt joined.

We all went in cold, a couple of has had been on the map before, but not extensively. Most hadn't read the briefing until just before insert. I took lead of the first couple, the first one a definite disaster. there are 4 replays, I'm not sure if the first attempt is in there, I hope so, it'll be obvious :) Our first insert, I sent one demo, through the tunnel, attempting to make it to the power alone,I figured that being as it took two kills to break stealth, chances were that one guy would make it ok. The rest of the crew, and backup demo stayed at insertion. That was my first mistake! When the guy in the tunnel triggered the tank , the entire squad at insert point ! I had demo,(the only one first round) when I took a knee to hit the tank, I was consequently cut to pieces by machine gun fire. That left the rest pinned in that little corner...all alone....lol. The rest of them were quickly eliminated, as was the soldier in the tunnel....ok...rough lesson, let's try this again.... 2nd insert, two went to the tunnell, one demo, one rifleman, the rest tried moving to the west, into some cover in case the tank arrived. One of us moving across the road triggered the tank, and we were off and running again ! Survivied a bit longer, and I remember correctly, one guy made it to the power, and disabled it(10 pts I guess, we had already been spotted) The demo man then got killed exiting the area near the 1st objective. The rest moved toward rescue, and only one survived to even reach the building. The rest of us were eliminated along the way. There are 4 replays attached, Hakok sent them to me, so not sure which is which.(1st, 2nd, etc) Very well done! I loved the comment "lmfao, the general wrecked the humvee" I was cracking up! What does that do to the scoring then ? We all loved the VW's at extract! I left the server, most were still attempting to beat it, but I'm not sure it's possible without a bit of practice, and especially a squad that works together normally. One guy that inserted with us, it was his first time ever doing GR multiplayer...wow, did he get a lesson :) All in all, I think we didi extremely well considering the "noob" status of the squad, and the minimal knowledge we had of the map. If you're going to get a tourney going, let me know as soon as you're ready, =GsTA= will be first in line :). If that's a taste of what you have, it will be very well done !! Thanks for letting us play it, it was a great mission, though TOUGH!! :) We'll definetly work till we get it :)

One of the most telling things I have noticed is that when playing a stealth tournament, you MUST have a relationship with your troops. You have to know how they operate, and play to their strengths. Vox is critical and if you don't have it, you are totally missing the point: communications is the difference between living and dying in three-quarter time.

I will be hosting games for SOG and Leary only on these types of missons.
