Hey guys, a good handful of websites are on strike right now about the SOPA act that is going to censor the american internet much like how China does. I just wanted to get your guys' opinions on this, since i've heard many different things from different people. You can read what google has said about it here

I think it's ridiculous that legal companies have to suffer just so they can take a stab at piracy, which is still going to exist anyways after this act. Major sites like youtube will take heavy blows for pretty much nothing but removing a homemade music video that is "illegally sharing music."

I was going to post a topic about this, but you beat me me to it. I've been against SOPA and PIPA since day one. Where else would I go to escape reality? I even went as far as to create a pamphlet about the bill, and dump 50 or so copies from a balcony in Aberdeen airport.

Was a great success.

They were canceled. I'm still piissed about megavideo though.

Some argue that SOPA and PIPA are American-specific issues, and that the rest of the world should butt out. But since the implementation of either would set a frightening precedent for the rest of the world, and directly affect many of the internet's largest sites, I have to say:

That shit is f****d up.

On the behalf of the international internet community, who stand to loose equally to the American populace, please kindly shoot this down.

i get the whole piracy is bad thing, im actually getting self consciense(?) about it due to the fact that i want to be an app developer. i can see where that would hurt some people.

sadly this really isnt about those people.

sopa and pipa is the media companies wanting more money, everyone (damn near at least) pirates movies, etc. companies like warner bros dont like it an want all possible profit, even though the money we save pirating gets spent regardless.
