10.5 has failed meh.

Post by Noodle » Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:24 pm

I was just playing a game of Starcraft II when OSX failed and I was forced (and prompted, for that matter) to restart the computer, and after I restarted OSX failed again and now when I start it up it gives me a combination of two beeps, then three, and it repeats the three beeps continuously.

Right now I'm reading this for advice, so I think I'll take it to an apple dealer sometime this week.

But if there's any other way to fix this quickly then that would be appreciated... does anyone think that I'd also be able to extract some stuff via FireWire to my other computers? Because I have some movies I really have to keep.

Firewire doesn't work... how fun. >_>

Well, this may or may not be an excuse to get a better computer. But I'm starcraft-less for a week and/or month now... time for some Red Dead.

Sounds like you overheated. You can try to reset the chips by unplugging the computer for a while. Normally I only hear this issue when the heat sensor on the hard disk or whatnot is loose.

Yes, I think that is exactly what happened. I turned on the lappy somehow and it's running disk utility now just in case. So it's kinda at defcon 5 right now and I'm evacuating a bunch of vital files. But that's probably the case as I was playing starcraft on a couch for a couple hours.

Guess I'll be more careful about that from now on.

DEFCON 1*

It's always in caps, and 5 means everything is ok, 1 is duck and cover while the nukes roll in. Interestingly enough, on my fan-control utility I have the highest setting named "DEFCON 1".

Duck and cover, lawlz. The 1900's were interesting, no?

Oh no, its an ICBM! What do you do? Get under your newspaper, silly! By covering yourself with a standard sheet of newspaper, you will be protected and safe from a nuclear blast! We guarantee your safety from nasty Alpha particles, as well as other potentially fatal effects of the blast!**

**Warning: Beta and Gamma particles, as well as the extreme heat caused by a fission/fusion reaction, not to mention the titanic pressure wave and the building-sized debris flying at you at 200 mph, are not guaranteed to be deflected or stopped by your sheet of newspaper
