Genocide – Nigeria

Hundreds slaughtered in Nigeria religious violence
DOGO NAHAWA, Nigeria – The killers showed no mercy: They didn't spare women and children, or even a 4-day-old baby, from their machetes. On Monday, Nigerian women wailed in the streets as a dump truck carried dozens of bodies past burned-out homes toward a mass grave.

Rubber-gloved workers pulled ever-smaller bodies from the dump truck and tossed them into the mass grave. A crowd began singing a hymn with the refrain, "Jesus said I am the way to heaven." As the grave filled, the grieving crowd sang: "Jesus, show me the way."

At least 200 people, most of them Christians, were slaughtered on Sunday, according to residents, aid groups and journalists. The local government gave a figure more than twice that amount, but offered no casualty list or other information to substantiate it.

An Associated Press reporter counted 61 corpses, 32 of them children, being buried in the mass grave in the village of Dogo Nahawa on Monday. Other victims would be buried elsewhere. At a local morgue the bodies of children, including a diaper-clad toddler, were tangled together. One appeared to have been scalped. Others had severed hands and feet.

The horrific violence comes after sectarian killings in this region in January left more than 300 dead, most of them Muslim. Some victims were shoved into sewer pits and communal wells.
Sunday's bloodshed in three mostly Christian villages appeared to be reprisal attacks, said Red Cross spokesman Robin Waubo.

Nigeria is almost evenly split between Muslims in the north and the predominantly Christian south. The recent bloodshed has been happening in central Nigeria, in towns which lie along the country's religious fault line. It is Nigeria's "middle belt," where dozens of ethnic groups vie for control of fertile lands.

The Rev. Pandang Yamsat, the president of a local Christian group, said he has urged his congregation not to respond violently to Muslims. However, he said he believes Muslims in the area want to control the region and that any peace talks would only give Muslims "time to conquer territory with swords."

"We have done our best to tell our members, 'don't go and attack Muslims, they are your brother,'" Yamsat said. However, "'if they come to dislodge you in your place, stand to defend yourself.'"

Barely controlled rage spilled over in the village as those gathered for the mass burial attacked a Muslim journalist covering the event. The journalist escaped, but others made threats against reporters.

The Rev. Federico Lombardi, a Vatican spokesman, condemned the violence and said Monday that the conflict must be interpreted in the light of social, economic, ethnic and cultural factors rather than religious hatred.

The killings add to the tally of thousands who have already perished in Africa's most populous country in the last decade due to religious and political frictions. Rioting in September 2001 killed more than 1,000 people. Muslim-Christian battles killed up to 700 people in 2004. More than 300 residents died during a similar uprising in 2008.

The killings in Dogo Nahawa, three miles (five kilometers) south of the region's main city of Jos, began early Sunday.
Chuwanga Gyang, 30, said he heard a gunshot and left his house through the back door but stopped when he realized that the attackers were shooting to herd fleeing villagers toward another group of attackers carrying machetes.
He recalled climbing into a tree and watching as villagers were killed and the attackers set homes alight over the course of 90 minutes.

The attackers asked people "Who are you?" in Fulani, a language used mostly by Muslims, and killed those who did not answer back in Fulani, he said.

Plateau State spokesman Gregory Yenlong said police are seeking to arrest Saleh Bayari, the regional leader of the Fulanis, alleging Bayari had made comments incited the slaughter. He gave no details.

The chairman of the local Fulani organization denied that his people were involved in the violence.
Jos has been under a dusk-til-dawn curfew enforced by the military since January's religious-based violence. It was not
clear how the attackers managed to elude the military curfew early Sunday.

Christian evangelist Musah Paul Gindiri said the police and military provided no security to the villages attacked Sunday morning.

"We have seen our flock is becoming very restive as the government is not trying to protect them," he said, warning that Christians would fight back if attacked again.

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan had said security agencies would be stationed along Plateau state's borders to keep outsiders from coming in with more weapons and fighters. However, an AP reporter passed into the state without being stopped and searched, as soldiers armed with Kalashnikovs merely watched passing traffic from the shade of trees and buildings.

Jonathan fired the country's national security adviser late Monday night, apparently in response to the renewed violence around Jos. A spokesman for Jonathan said he appointed retired Lt. Gen. Aliyu Gusau to fill the position.
More than 600 people have fled to a makeshift camp that still held victims from January's violence, said Red Cross official Adamu Abubakar. He expected more to come, putting an even bigger strain on the already limited humanitarian aid for those fleeing the violence

Makes me greatful to be in my country. This is the one reason I will never say my country is a horrible place. Here, we are nothing more then whining about what we want, saying our country is crap if it isn't the way we want it. Yet look at what it could have been, look what it might be someday. This is one of the darkest sides of our world. Monsters are real, they prey on the innocent that they can get, and are free to do so. While we sit on our asses, complaining with ourselves about what we can and cannot or should and shouldn't have. When we should look around and see what we NEED and what we NEED to do. I don't know about anyone else, but once my love comes home, I'm going to spend every waking moment with her, today and forever. Remember what your beliefs are, and protect those you love from the darkness around you. Remember, whatever country your from, look at what you have and look what it could have been.

I am an American, where at least I know I'm free. I will not give up my Freedom for comfortable living. As for our neighbors, or even those who hate us. Remember, you can call us evil, disgusting, horrible, and lazy. However, the truth is, despite my country's selfishness, us true blood Americans will fight for the good of man.

Kiyoshi... "true-blood Americans?" Seriously? I don't want to turn this into a political discussion on America, but the rich, Republican, "true-blood Americans" don't fight for shit unless it's themselves, their property, or money. Yes, Africa is a shithole. Yes, it would suck to live there. Yes, there are horrible people there. But then, a fair amount of them are fighting for a cause that they believe in. You say we Americans will fight for the good of man? Tell that to Bush. Tell that to the idiots who got us into Afganistan and Iraq.

Thank you for proving my point.

Idiot, you've completely fallen deaf to what I said. Did you even read it? I like how you're one of those americans who separates your own brothers with politics as usual. You're negativity about what people are in general pisses me off. You never do look at the good do you Kayar? So Bush made a selfish choice, tell me something. Did you Vote? Did your parents? If not, you can't say shit. If your parents did vote against him, good for them. Guess what though? No one can always get what they want. I'm Not republican before you assume that, so just drop it.

Yeah, people were sent to those places for the wrong reasons. However, do you honestly think our men and women of service were thinking "OIL, OIL, OIL" Or about how maybe, just maybe their presence there might make a difference?

Also, I didn't say all Americans would. I said the TRUE BLOODED AMERICANS.

Now unless you use the Heart you were born with instead of that useless hunk of brain matter that thinks it knows what emotion is, Get The Fuck Out.

It's that political Bullshit that got us in this mess, and all you're doing is pointing fingers at the people you don't like, crying like a baby.

Also, Kayar. I pasted this from CDistrict because guess what? It's what I fucking believe. Go ahead and mock it, it shows your no better then the republicans you hate so much. Did you honestly think mocking me for pasting my words that I believe in is stupid?

Alright asshole. I had wanted to avoid conflict, especially that of the political kind, as you would have noted if you had read my post. Personally, I normally have nothing against you, you tend to be a nice guy with ambitious goals and strong morals. It's when you go flashing those morals all over the place and trying to drown people in them, putting down any and all beliefs contrary to your own, when other people get pissed off at you. Though, for the record, YOU were the first one to truly get pissed off and put ANYTHING political between us. I never attacked you directly, I attacked what I thought you were promoting. Now, I'll address what you have said in response.

Point #1: "Kayar whines about America instead of doing something about it." Wrong. 1. When Obama became President, I was not able to vote smartass. Obviously the same with when Bush was President. Since turning 18, I have voted the one time the option was available to me. 2. If you could look inside my head, or read some of what I've written, you would know that my plans for the future involve promoting change of personality, attitude, and moral views towards more positive ones through the fictional novels, movies, etc. I plan on writing/becoming a part of. My "whining" is more in the way of pointing out and making things known, y'know, the concept of rallies and strikes and etc.? So that those in positions capable of making change can do so? You asked if I look at the good. If I'm ever positive. Well, yeah, Kiyoshi, I am, when I'm not talking about the depressing state of affairs of the world, something I would say it would be imbecilic to simply ignore outright. You advocate just sitting back and waiting while the world falls apart? Cuddling with your loved one? Essentially eschewing responsibility in favor of comfort. What a great contingency plan for when the hole in the o-zone layer kills us all. Wish I'd thought of that.

Point #2: "Kayar separates his own brothers with politics." 1. I have no brothers, I have a wonderful sister. 2. If you'll notice, every time there is a political discussion here on MGM, I avoid it. I hate politics BECAUSE they separate people. I believe I've said as much in another topic or multiple somewhere here on this board. On top of that, I have a very good friend who is a Republican, and I would be more than happy to remain your friend as well if you did not attack me, even if you have different beliefs than I do. I could care less, you're a human being just like the rest of us and that's enough for me.

Point #3: I never once mentioned the members of the military and their beliefs. On this point, you are right, they didn't ask to be sent there, and yes, they absolutely make a difference. The people themselves are not to blame, yes. I never said they were. The people in charge on the other hand...

Point #4: Oh, okay, right right, "TRUE BLOODED AMERICANS." So now you're promoting elitism. Kiyoshi, I seriously hope you realize how much of an asshole you sound like.

Point #5: "Does Kayar have emotions." Why yes, yes I do. If I didn't, I wouldn't care about the situation humanity is in. I care quite a lot, as opposed to someone who plans to spend "every waking moment" during which they could be making a difference with his wife. Also, for the record, the heart is not in control of emotions, your brain is.

Point #6: In hindsight, yeah, I guess I could have phrased my post a little differently. I was annoyed at the time, mainly by the term you used (see point #4) and what it sounded like to me. But, y'know what? This is a forum. A place to discuss things. No shit you're going to have to defend your opinions. Suck it up, instead of being a crybaby. Hypocrite.

From a private message:
Kiyoshi wrote:Unfortunatly, I have to shut down my internet. I decided to give you my final msg.

You've completely deformed what I wrote and turned it into something cynical.

1. I have nothing to retort with because it's just mostly an insult towards me.

2. what i meant by "Brothers" was the American people. You've taken every word far too literally, THIS is what I meant when I said what I did about your heart, you don't consider what else there is, you look at what's straight ahead and nothing more.

3. There are people in charge who try to do good, I'm NOT saying all. I'm saying some. Your generalization of all our leaders isn't smart.

4. Again, you look too literally, True blooded Americans are NOT better then anyone, they are people willing to protect the American name. Elitism? Foolish. There is no elite people. You know that and it was stupid to so quickly assume such of me, you should know me better then that.

5. Belittle my spending time with my wife all you want, the fact is no matter what you do for this country, if you don't contain a life of your own and protect those you are supposed to care about, your barely human. Why else is it such a big deal when family becomes an important issue with politics? to save face? maybe, but if spending time with a loved one over missing something your fighting for now and again makes me a lazy human being not showing support, you in your own way have just insulted the workers of this country who decide to care for their loved ones instead of going to work one day.

6. You couldn't have, you should have. You brought whatever rage you had for something in real life and let it affect the way you are on the internet. Btw, I may have gotten mad first, but guess what?
Kayar wrote:(Oh look Kiyoshi, I can copy/paste posts between websites too!)
You attacked first. Next time be more mature when you decide to add little things like this to your posts.

Don't bother responding either. I'm shutting down my internet to do something you belittled. That's taking care of my wife and child.

Also, you said the brain controls the emotions. Did you think and consider every single one of those insults to me on purpose? Or did they just get in there so you could vent? If so, what really is in control?

All I wanted was to show how we as a people are mostly good hearted people with dreams of peace, no matter how "lazy" we seem. I wanted to show Mota and other people who don't like us that we can be something that we used to.

Thank you for breaking that up.

Goodbye and Good Riddance, and Congratulations.
*Sigh*...

Damnit. Well, Kiyoshi, likely, you won't read this for a long time to come, if what you're saying here is true. But I know you will eventually read it, time and again it's been proven that people can't just leave these places like that, much as they might want to. Hell, even I've tried and failed before. And, in regards to failing, well, I certainly have failed here.

I regret all that I posted. It was stupid, I did take everything you said in an entirely different direction. I should never have gotten so worked up about it. I vented. For some reason, I wanted someone to argue against, someone to put down, someone to belittle. You were unlucky enough to be there.

I can't say much more than that. I have no excuse for my behavior. And now I've alienated you, and caused you to leave. Well, shit, in my heart, far away from the big lump of gray matter I've got rolling around in my head, I never meant for that to happen. You've been a good friend. I am truly happy for you and your wife.

Though I may be an ass and place myself above others, though I may act inteligent and on top, I am still only human when push comes to shove and have much still to learn about the world and my actions in it. I have made a mistake. I am sorry.

It's funny how it started with grieving, then the topic split up into an argument and a trollolz.
