Today, the computer labs in my school were all being used so my programming class had to go to the library and "work" On laptops. Our teacher wasn't there so we spent the whole class looking at live blog posts as the iPad was being announced.

I don't know how practical it is, but damn it looks good.

iTablet would have been better. But Apple usually knows what they are doing. This will either completely flop, or you should see cheap rip-offs appearing on the market trying to steal away some of Apple's ingenuity. You know, like with the iPhone.

Actually, think about it. What is the cost? $500, right?


Now, imagine you have no computer, or need a new one. You dont want to deal with Windows, so you turn to Apple. "Well hang on a second - Those laptops are pretty expensive! I wouldnt mind buying one, but I dont need that sort of processing power."

Your other choice is a desktop, starting with the Mac Mini at $600. "That reasonably priced," you think. Although, you will need a moniter and keyboard/mouse. So you could go for an iMac. Again, you dont need that processing power. And lets say you want it portable (which is why you looked at the laptops in the first place).

Your next option is to move away from the heavy processing and tabletop computers to the other thing Apple can offer - the handhelds. Obviously you need something that has the basic functionality of a computer, but an iPod Touch or iPhone just wont do. They are too small or too tedious to type documents and email with.

And thats the gap the iPad fills. Its portable, although less so than the handhelds, but slightly more powerful and gives you the space you need for documents and stuff. As a plus, it already has millions of third-party apps for it. And Apple's next step had better be to allow some sort of syncing between it and a computer so you can use it as a drawing tablet. And then you can import the stuff and draw on-the-go as well. Adobe, you better listen up too. Photoshop for something like the tablet would sell real well.



Now that I am done with my marketing campaign, I can say that I did expect a little more. But again, its Apple. The only other thing I can think of them doing now is going, "Look, we told you that we didn't want to enter the Tablet PC domain, and this is exactly why. No tablet for you, its discontinued indefinitely."

My only complaint is that it's not running the regular MAc OS X - I would've like to have seen that on a touch screen. Other than that, I cannot wait to get my hands on one.

Whoo, a giant iPod. As Moxus said, I would have much rather have had the regular OSX on it.
