People still on GameRanger?

I signed on my old g3 yesterday and it looked pretty bleak.

I still use it during the summer... can't guarantee how long this will last, though.

You see, GameRanger is not a priority in people's lives. Think about what it really is: a computer game server. Unless your career lies in computer games (and even if it does), playing them online using GameRanger is simply not a priority for most people. Thus is the nature of leisure time: you do something you like to do. Sad as you may feel, all you want, but remember that people move on...and often very quickly  .

I still sign on just about everyday to see if any buddies are online, but I definitely don't rely on it as a server browser because newer games have their own ingame server browser, not to mention I meet up with people on our teamspeak server when I want to play. That way you don't have to deal with most of the trolls that you could care less about.

I find it almost laughable that some people sit around on GR all day, chat in the lobbies, and think they are gods gift to Mac gaming. Have any of you ever read some of the stuff people talk about there? Some of the premium members egos are so big, it's ridiculous.

Good ol' GamerAnger.

Sometimes it's nice to step back and look at the big picture, and just laugh.

They forget that they are only as good as the game programmer lets them be... and only as good as the interface allows. If the game was written so it would own you, it would. People forget that playing games on a computer means the rules are within the programming's restraints. The same actually applies to every action on a computer--it is all within constraints of the interface. These physics are far from resembling real life, and thus are pointless in matters outside gaming.

In sum, don't brag about how well you play a computer game. Tell people about how well you play sports or how successful you are in life. Otherwise, it looks like you don't have one.

I was just talking with one of my buddies on GameRanger, and he said that he just got married and will be a father soon. I congratulated him, and he also told me he didn't have much free time to play on GameRanger. I was surprised he even made time to use it then!

I think this will help put things into perspective.

LMAO! - Oh dear...And I was just getting a bit nostalgic myself for GameRanger...

I did a similar post to this in teh Ghost Recon section, thinking it would be nice to see if any of the old gang were still about.

But now I'm not so sure!

Take your point about the in game network browsers - almost all games have these now ~ does this make GameRanger redundant?

Hmmm.

That combined with the availability of Teamspeak and Ventrillo servers make GamerAnger redundant, yes I agree.

To tell ya the truth, the only reason I log into GR is because most of my friends rely on it so much. Ya can't teach an old dog new tricks. *shrug*

Yeah - we use Ventrillo in the clan I play with. And I also used to use X-Fire in my previoue clan (nive thing abouy X-Fire is ot allows you to click on a friends name and join them in tjhe server they are playing in).

I guess the main advantage of GameRanger in the Mac was that there was nothing else like it so everybody used it ~ on the PC side there are so many different systems available that it can get a little consfusing.
