I was at the tools page at the mod database, and saw hconsenabler. It says it can enable the console. I don't know what the console is. I was wondering what it is and what it does. Plz answer mah question

I'm having this problem:
As soon as I open up pearl, the normal box does not come up. Instead a window says:
"An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down.
I really want to use pearl but it won't open up at all.
