If you go to the Far Lands on the server you lag all >:(

Not that interesting, now go to the Far Lands in the Nether in 1.9pre and enjoy yourself.

Ah, yes. 2D rendering of a 3D slice of cake gives little flavor.

Because it would be a bunch of netherrack or bedrock.

It looks trippy as fuck. also its supposed to be a hard to traverse terrain.

It was taxing to the server. And mono said the server took 30 minutes to an hour to render when it was small, and this would take a few days at least if my estimates are correct.

Chunks don't get rendered until they are visible, so why would there be extra lag?

Also, I don't understand the flak I'm getting for doing this, when nobody besides myself and NutHead has seen what I found at 100,000, and only I saw what was found along the way. But I only saw a fraction of what there was to see along the way, anyway. It's the discovery that's so exciting about exploration, and I discovered a lot that none of you have considered before determining that what I saw was not worth discovering.

If you're interested in getting to -100,000 x, then take the straight tunnel system that is near the main nether portal (the portal you reach when entering near the monostatue). Once you're in the netherworld after using that portal, it's through the opposite doors from the doors that you use on the way to the ice palace NutHead and I made and lava caverns I developed.

Also, rendering an extra ~30,000 chunks takes some time.

(100,000 blocks / 16 chunk width in blocks) * 5 chunks per chunk traveled = 31250 chunks generated from 0 to 100,000

And this is just an estimate. If you had Far rendering that 5 might be a 7 or maybe a 9. Chunks generate on either side of you according to what you see, so being in one chunk means that 2-3 chunks to each side are generated. Multiply by two for each side and one for the middle.

This is complete speculation. Also, not including chunks already generated in the direction you traveled. But for sure you generated at least ~6000 chunks. (100,000/16)

I'm going to guess no. Monoman has to initiate the update, and I assume it's no quick task, and since 1.8 is soon he might not bother.

Where I went is north, judging by the position of the sun.

Will the Google Maps API get updated on the server? It seems to be turned off.

Someone should go in the opposite direction >_>

I added a nether portal and welcome sign at -100,000 0. I also made a safehouse in the treetops on a mountain, and gave myself a bed to sleep there. You should have the fly mod in order to reach the safehouse. It's quite nice at -100,000, although very mysterious. The nether portal links even further away, at -120,000-ish.

What are the coordinates you get at the portal in the nether? Maybe I can make a straight tunnel from this portal back to the other portals in the netherworld.

Although I wasn't looking the entire time, of what I saw, my favorite coordinates are -50,000ish, -95,000ish and of course -100,000ish. At -98,455, there's an amazing mountain that looks fit for a large mountaintop castle. -98,736 has a large ice lake (you should be rather familiar with those already). -99,000 has a pretty cool stone ledge over a diving pool. -99,150 is totally sweet. And -50,000 was incredible... I saw a wolf pack among other really neat things.

If we update the Google map, then you can see the terrain I traveled.

Won't matter if we do a restart.

Farlands, the long way there
Already seen it, though I haven't kept up with it at all.
